[REQ] Companion no clip

Post » Tue May 15, 2012 12:17 pm

When the kit comes out I will look into doing this myself, but if someone has the knowledge to do so now that would be awesome. It's useful to have a companion but only during a fight and as long as there are no doorways. Lydia is a stay at home Housecarl ATM cause she is too annoying for general exploration. No clipping on companions, YES PLEASE!

It might not solve your problem, but you can shove your companions (and most other humanoid NPCs your size) by sprinting into them. That's what I do to get NPCs out of my way if I can't walk around them.

I hadn't tried that yet. I would usually equip a shield and start shield-bashing.

This is impossible to do because the same collision you are running into is the collision that keeps them from falling though the ground and walking trhough objects.

Think of them as a trailer. You cant expect to immediately turn around and back up. you have to maneuver the trailer around first.

If you hold down the use key on them you can then go into a command mode where you can make them walk to another location.

I just sprint into them and bump them out of the way. They usually retort with an insult.

Hm that can't be right. There are quite a few games that allow you to pass through NPCs (and in some MMOs, even other PCs) and they don't fall through the ground.

Last I checked, this is not another game. It is Skyrim developed by Bethesda Game Studios. The way they have it, it would be impossible to disable the collision of an NPC and not either have them clip through any and all objects, or outright break.

If you just walk up to lydia, she'll back up on her own after a second or two. A mod that shortens this time would be nice though.

When I stand directly next to, like touching, my companion, he says "Oh" and steps backward 2 steps.... just have to stand there a few seconds before he does.

I stopped taking companions with me because they always start shoving me when I'm trying to hide and line up a shot with my bow.

I wish there was the option like in FO:NV where you can tell your followers to stay way back behind you.

I don't get you. Sometimes I see you post helpful, constructive responses, and then other times you are condescending as in this response.

Last time *I* checked, Bethesda didn't invent this game engine. It's used in a lot of different games. Therefore your pithy remark about this not being another game is invalid.

You know how "they have it," eh? Are you actually a dev in disguise? I have doubts, considering you seem to think that collision and game engines are designed specifically for each game, when in fact many games use similar (if not the same) engines/systems.

You don't have to be snoody about defending a stupid flaw in this game. No clip with NPCs and only NPCs is common in a lot of games, and not having it in Skyrim makes it inferior in that regard if what you say is true.

Behtesda has been working on this engine since Morrowind. They even said, they had to build many parts of it themselves. And since morrowind, the engine has only been used in 1 non-BethesdaGS game, Fallout New Vegas.

I know how they have it and I can prove it. Go in game, and open the consle, and type in TCL. That stands for Toggle Collision, meaning, your collision box is literally turned off. The EXACT same thing would happen if they did so for any NPC.

@Aerograt: Im not being snobby, I am simply telling it how it is. If this makes Skyrim inferior to other games, then thats what it does. Skyrim isn't perfect, nor has I ever claimed it to be so. Every game has its flaws.

I rather have them 'lighter', like how you walk up to the wooden cart, and it flies off just because you accidentally kicked into it.

will be working on this as well, by adding script commands for if the PC is walking/running into companion character or someone who is fallowing you...

if we can get more scripters we could fix more of these issues... full list of changes planned here: http://www.thenexusforums.com/index.php?/topic/463687-realism-mod/page__p__3820554__fromsearch__1#entry3820554

Definitely a major peeve of mine too. Although walking up and standing right in her face usually works to get her to back up a bit. Not so useful in combat obviously, but in most other circumstances it's fine.

Now if she'd just stop pushing me over ledges I'm trying to peek down.

The game already does it. Walk all the way up to an innkeeper, or your follower, or any other normal NPC. Run into them and then stand still right next to them. After a few seconds, they back up.

One of my "must-have Morrowind mods was Noirgrim's http://planetelderscrolls.gamespy.com/View.php?view=Mods.Detail&id=1701 mod. It sounds like a Skyrim version is needed.
