I wasn't aware companions COULD die...The one I have gets knocked down and kneels for a while, then gets up... Are some like that? Or have I just been lucky. They also took a really long fall and made it out okay.

they are low on health when they kneel and the enemies take that as giving up and leave them alone. however if youre not nearby or they score a crit just before your companion will die. you can also kill them if you hit them durring battle.

well no, but usually they are left alone once they fall down but mine has been killed quite a few times now.

There's three dog companions you can get in Skyrim.

And your companions can die - usually, if you accidentally hit or magic them.

According to the strategy guide, companions only die if you give them the killing blow. Otherwise they just kneel for a while then get up again.

I was pissed my dog just kind of went missing :/ I'm only guessing HE died, but I'm sure your normal companions die.
