Companions and horses

Post » Tue May 15, 2012 10:19 am

Hey all,

[POSSIBLE SPOILERS]

We know that horses exist and the player can ride them. I wonder if anyone has any info on whether or not companions can be given/made to ride horses? It would seem pretty silly to ride a horse and have your companion on foot trying to keep up. If they can't ride horses I personally won't have a companion, except maybe a pet.

hey

Although im not completely certain on this but from a few videos iv seen the player was on horse back while their companion just followed on foot. Companions may follow if a horse is provided for them but like i said from what iv seen they tend to run after you. sorry mate.

Let us no speak of such things, as I too have seen this and it prompted my question.

I would hope there would be a way to buy a horse for a companion, does anyone have insight on this?

I'm not really a fan of horses or companions either way, but if it came down to it then I'd choose the companion. Using a horse while your wife/husband/slave runs after you would just be annoying.

Agreed. I would like to think there is a means of doing so but for some reason i just cant believe there will be

You can tell a companion to sit in a chair, maybe you can tell them to ride a horse...

Maybe they will have a companion reel like in New Vegas and there will be an option to have your companion to mount/dismount if they have a horse. It might be possible that some companions have horses and others you have to buy one for them.

Companions will follow on foot from what I've seen. That's a real shame, Oblivion modders had no trouble making companions ride their own mounts and even summon one when no spare is available.

At least, it appears there will be very little pathfinding problems and they're fighting efficiently, switching weapons, avoiding traps and not rushing in. Some extra care was obviously spent in making them as self-sufficient as possible, so we don't need to constantly babysit them. But they're not overly interactive either, so once again, modders will step in to add some extra functionality.

On a side note, you can't put out torches and light sources. Sad news for fellow stealth players and stealth mods.

PS: No companion wheel from what I've seen.

Also, in the instances I've seen, the companion seems to catch up with the player on horseback extremely quickly... I suspect there may be some sort of cheating or rubber-banding on their part, though I may be mistaken.

I believe they'll teleport to the player if they get too far too behind or stuck behind some obstacle. Or maybe they're really quick, I didn't see them teleporting, btw.

Maybe if you own two horses they can ride the extra mount. If not then there might be certain companions who own horses, then they would ride them (like in Oblivion). I think one will have to dive into the game to find answers to questions like these.

And if not, then this will be a very easy mod, I predict it released in a few days after release if such abominations exist.

Now what would be harder to mod, but really cool is if you can share a mount.

Another question is if you steal a carriage maybe your companions can ride with you in the carriage. That would be cool!

I think it would be cool if they could hop on the back side of your horse with you if they don't have their own mount. That's just me hoping lol
