My Companions have guns and associating ammo are not shootin

Hi All,

So I'm having a bug or a problem. My Companion is loaded up with a sniper rifle and 308 ammo, but when in combat it says there is no ammo and he won't fire...WTF?

Do they have regular .308 ammo or is it special rounds? I know it shouldn't matter but maybe it's being dumb about using special rounds. Also, try swapping the gun out and making sure it's loaded with regular ammo when you use it.

Also- which companion is it? Maybe they don't meet the minimum strength or guns requirement to use it (st 6 guns 75). I doubt that's the issue, but if you want to experiment and find out try opening the console by typing "~" when they're in view.

Click on them
then type
setav guns 100
setav strength 10

If they then equip and use it, you know that was the issue. I don't suggest saving it with them modified like that- they'll be trustingly powerful.

I had all three ammos I'll try that with the console.

Oh yeah now that I finished her quest and told her to stay with me veronica isnt following me?

Ah yeah here's a mod that should fix that (create seperate save before and after using and disable mod after using it)

It ads a consumable "aid" item to your inventory that runs a script upon using that should reset her to the way she's meant to be after finishing her quest. Disable the mod when finished.

Nice thanks got that, but I'm having a problem with Boone on the weapons.

Boone has a sniper rifle and 308 rounds, but dosen't use it when we are fighting, thats the only weapons I have on him? ARRGHH

Not sure- try toggling ranged and meelee on the companion command wheel. Also, I think followers have unlimited ammo for their basic weapon. When you give him .308 ammo it gets rid of his "magical companion ammo" (yes that's what the invisible item is called in the editor). With boone that can cause him to glitch a little until you manually tell him to use meelee and then again tell him to use ranged combat. I've got him in T51-b (nonfaction) power armor using an anti-materiel rifle right now and it works fine.

If you have a save shortly before giving him the ammo and rifle- try just giving him the rifle. Giving him ammo gets rid of his infinite ammo (or so I've heard) so if you can get him to use the rifle without every giving him ammo then that's even better.)

Also- just toggling mellee/ranged once or twice usually fixes this.

the problem is he pulls out the gun, but then he doesn't shoot it! Like huh?

open console, click on boone, and type "showinventory", that will give you the ref. id for the sniper rifle he has on him, then type "equipitem ID" and he will use it

i gave him the gobi rifle, and took his old rifle, never had any problems about not using the one i gave him

What is the weapon id number for boone's weapon? My boone lost his somehow and i want to try that console command you mentioned.

Found the number..its 000CE549

Doesn't help any though. The command wont let me put it in his inventory. I can add it to mine, and I see it under my weapon inventory..but when I try to give it to Boone it doesnt show up in the trade equipment screen. Tried dropping it and it was no longer able to be picked up. Thought maybe boone would walk over to the rifle and goes "there it is! been looking for that!". But to no avail..
