Do compansions use sights or hip-fire (or both)?

When you give a companion a weapon, which aiming mechanic do they use? Sights/Scopes or Hip-Fire? It would make a big difference in how I mod the weapon I give them to use if I knew. Also...is there no way to edit your post title?

I can see them raising the weapon up to aim, like your iron-sights do in third-person. So it would appear that they use sighted fire, almost exclusively.

I would also like to know this for weapon modding...

I have always gotten better results with hip fire increasing mods, while penalties to hip fire almost always make them worse at hitting things.

Sniper rifles with massive hip fire penalties can't hit anything

Pistols with hip fire bonuses actually hit things

I don't think the range makes a difference they always hip fire mechanically as far as I can tell.

From what I have witnessed it is always hip fire.

It does not matter if the weapons have sights or scope, they seems to always shoot from the hip.
