Does anyone have a link to a legend that explains what all the location symbols mean that appear in the compass?

Damm, I was searching forum for the same answer but I guess I'm not the only one confused. There is nothing mentioned in the instruction pamphlet (lets face it guys a game as complex as TES needs a large booklet) and the same with the huge offical 650+ page guide book. Whilst we are on the subject, I'm playing on console and I can place a custom marker on the map but an unable to remove said marker, any clues guys?

For your question, open map, move cursor to middle of wilderness, click, then you get the option to remove marker.

To remove the marker, click somewhere else on the map and you should get an option to either move it or remove it.

Tower icon = Ruins/Forts

Mountan Icon = Caves

Hut Icon = Town/Farm/Village

Tent Icon = Stormcloak Camps

Imperial Icon = Imperial Camps

Pillar icon = Standing Stones

Dragon Icon = Dragon Perches

Every major city has it's own unique icon (the symbol of the city).

Hm... I don't think I missed any. Let me know if I did.

I assume they didn't mention them because after you visit enough places it becomes pretty apparent what they are, if the icons themselves aren't already an indicator.

Off the top of my head:

Cave: Cave
Bear claw: Stormcloak Camp
Tower: Keep/Tower/Hold
House: Village
Mammoth Skull: Giant Camp

Edit to add - doesn't look complete though, there is another symbol I recall seeing in game that is not on there - sort of a vertical line with hooked lines going across it - no idea what that is!
