This is a pretty easy issue to mimic... All you have to do is set the quest where the white marker is pointing towards your quest. Next go into a random building (works best from a fort where it has a tower exit) and exit through a second story door and the compass will point you towards the door you just exited through. Now if you jump down to ground level or anything it will still keep pointing to that same door you just exited through and not your direct quest.
