Computer Part Help

Post » Sat Jun 30, 2012 10:02 pm

Skipping the details the HD on a relative's computer went out and I need to find a replacement. Searching around i'm having trouble since i'm not used to dealing with this sort of thing. If anyone out there can give me some ideas as to what would work it would be appreciated.

The drive is for a Compaq HP laptop and I will have to order the recovery software to put onto the new drive. *got 0x0 error code which meant the drive died I guess*

The info on it says Seagate serial ATA Disc Drive 250gb

I can't send the laptop to the manufacturer cause it's past warranty and I bought it from an online auction site more than a year ago. Searched through newegg and i'm not sure what drive to even try to purchase *again I haven't replaced a drive on a laptop before.*

If anyone needs pictures of the drive I can post them up.

Yup, I removed it today with a bit of finagling. Had a friend who stopped by point out the place where he thought the drive would be.

Well if it's a laptop it's probably a 2.5" drive. So I'd imagine you just need to get another one of those and pop it in.

Are you sure the drive is dead? Maybe you just need to reinstall Windows.

Unfortunately it is dead because when I tried to load it up again it gave me an error stating it couldn't detect the Hard Disk. Received an error code 0x0 when trying to run windows from the most "error free" patch from the menu.

As for the drive itself i'm not sure how HD's work exactly. Hoping it's something simple as buying a 2.5" drive for the thing. Already ordered the recovery discs.
