Confused about Dishonored, (a Skyrim fan).

Post » Sat May 12, 2012 6:49 am

I have two questions
  • Will there be a "end" to the game where you can't come back from, meaning you can't continue anymore after you've completed it?
  • Will there be any multiplayer?
  • Will you meet any interesting characters you won't kill but insted will become your friends/allies that you will meet again or visit?
I ask these questions because I know I won't play a game for a very long time if there is a end to the game with no multiplayer option.
Just like with The Witcher 2, it was fun but after it was over, never played the game again.

Update for those who might not read thru all of the replies to this topic.
1. The game has an end. It's level based, but each level has sandbox-type elements -- giving you plenty of opportunities to come back and try different things.
2. Single player only
3. Yes, definitely. In some cases you can go ahead and kill them, but that will result in a mission fail.

1. Probably. While Dishonored isn't strictly linear I'd assume its story has a definite end.
2. I don't believe so.
3. I'm not sure, it wouldn't surprise me either way.

I doubt there is multiplayer and I believe there is an end.

This is a level based stealth game, not an open world Skyrim-like RPG where you explore for hundreds of hours.

1. There will be an end to the story, but I highly believe that you can go back and play the story again. Possibly New Game Plus.
2. Probably not, but it's not out of the question.
3. Probably, but possibly not. Most games have friendly characters.

None of these can be answered with certainty, as there have not been details on any of these yet.

If they are not planning a sequel with corvo, i`d say it will be definetly a permament end to the game. :whisper:

It would have a definite ending. However, you can always replay the game and try out new ways to accomplish the same task.

Yes, I imagine the replay value lies in the various playing styles, as well as the "eight or nine different ways" to complete certain missions, resulting in different NPC dialogue and different effects on the world.

they've stated over the phone to an interview, there isn't a "new game plus" as of this moment they have no intention of including a new game plus, unless it's a DLC, as for the multiplayer that would be rather difficult since its a stealth based game, not including AC multiplayer, how many assassination multiplayers are there? allies seem like a possibility but as of this moment they're showing Corvo as a revenge hungry assassin, definitively not a people; person

Really? He struck me as a bit of a cuddler in that debut trailer.

So there is no confusion, I must ask this:

As you say there is plenty of opportunities to come back and try different things, does that mean you can move from level B back to level A in-game?
I do hope you can move from level B to level A in real-time (in-game) if you decided, ?Hey, I like to do some of the side missions at level A that I didn't do, let's go back there now.?

Because I'm not 100% sure if you ment it was like this or if you had to go back to the game menu and then load level A.

I'm still catching up on the last few days of previews (and I'm not privy to anything about this game that isn't public), but from what I gather most side-missions are tied to completing your objective. If that's the case once an objective is complete there wouldn't be much reason to return to the area.

Of course, I could be entirely wrong, and perhaps if there are side-missions not explicitly tied to your objective you can go back and do them. However I get the feeling this will be more like Thief 3 with the hub-based city sections you come back to but levels that are distinct and cannot be visited upon completion. (If this is the case hopefully the hub is better done than in Thief 3, I found it became tiresome rather quickly, particularly since it was constantly resetting.)

You can load an old save to return to an old mission.

SIde missions are tied to main objectives, there is a hub between mission, http://dishonored.wikia.com/wiki/The_Hound_Pits, and you can return to old missions by loading old saves, and obviously by doing another playthrough

Okey, I get it now (I think).
  • Hub is a location you can visit on each mission for planning your mission a little? getting info? "debriefing room"?
  • Every mission takes place on a level that is a open world (sandbox) kinda level to give you many different options (good for replay value)?
  • You can do side missions that will get you closer to your target in some way? Many ways to get to your target and different ways to kill the target?
So this game is kinda like Hitman then? But 100x better? :woot:

Kind of.
1. Hub is a place that you go inbetween missions to level up and buy stuff and stuff like that, possibly strategizing also
2. Yep
3. There are side missions within the missions, which give you access to different ways of completing that mission

And yes, the game has been compared to Hitman

I've had a quick look thru Dishonored wiki now and I really hope this game will kick ass.
Supernatural abilities, hello? I'm sold already. I always wanted to be an assassin in a game with supernatural abilities!

Hopefully it's like Assassin's Creed where even after you beat the game you can still explore and stuff.

I'd hope that you can go back to previous areas, if only to pick up any missed runes.

1. Let's hope so.
2. Let's hope not!
3. I think is needed if the story wants to be considered decent.
