Thoughts? Opinions?

Yeah I've made a thread about this before.

It does take away from the pure mage aspect, because you are required to place perks in the corresponding weapon tree to make them work effectively.

.. but at the same time, it doesn't because your weapons are magical, and not mundane.

I have a character that only uses Thu'um, lightning magic, Storm Atronachs, and bound weapons. Half of his perks are in combat oriented trees, but I still consider him a sorcerer of sorts, because he doesn't carry any mundane weapons, besides his fists.

Mage archer myself (Conj/Archery) using Illusion for Silent cast and Invisibility/Muffle as my work-around "sneak" mechanic".

Do I qualify it as a "pure" mage? Not exactly, but at the same time everything I do (even my sneaking or my weapon itself) comes from using Magic. Nothing like having 2 summons tanking while you are raining arrows on them.

Are you saying it does or doesn't? ^_^

It's magic. So...it's still fits with Pure Mages.

I am saying that it does either, based on your point of view.

If you notice in the game, most mages do carry at least one dagger with them. What does that tell you about TES's pure mage class?

I think that it infers that even a mundane dagger does not destroy your mage class entirey.

In my opinion, even two fully perked weapon trees that augment your bound weapon's associated combat skills will not change your class to something besides mage. You are a mage that has learned how to utilize your spell to its pinnacle. That is my opinion anyway.

Ah, I see..Yeah I could picture myself going berserk with two bound swords.

Id say that if you use magic skills exclusively, then your a pure mage. Even with bound weaponry, but once you start perking out in another combat skill, your not, since even though you only use ethereal weapons, you would also be just as good with real world weapons. Just my opinion.
