Consequences of Pets "Expiring"?

Post » Sat Nov 17, 2012 10:29 am

So I could have sworn that I read somewhere (and recently) that if an adopted kid's pet is killed by you then they will never bring another pet home. Is this true? More importantly though, does anyone know if there are any repercussions if it's your kid that accidentally kills their pet? I seem to have...COUGH COUGH...a reoccurring problem with that...it's as if I'm setting it all up and watching with a huge grin. Or something...like that...

Seriously though, will either end scenario to a pet's life keep your kid from adopting more pets? I want them to have pets, just not those boring and irritating pets like foxes and rabbits...I'll take a Skeever or FB spider over those any day. Or even just have a chance to sample each one!

If a child brings home a pet you don't like, just say they can't keep it. Unless you say 'no pets ever', they'll keep trying.

Runa has a pet bunny. its quiet and out of the way. I told her she could keep it. I usually find it watching her swing her enchanted sword on the dummy in the basemant. She hasn't accidently killed it yet.

Thanks for the responses and info, but has anyone else heard (or, if playing the PC version, gone through the files) about killing pets --> no more pets being brought home?

I still don't think that the pet FB spider actually exists.

Wouldn't let 'em keep it anyway. I've been attacked by too many of the nasty things.

Me too. I would just like to see it for once. A baby FB Spider running around would be kind of funny.

I think I'd have to accidentally step on it. One of the kids asked to keep a skeever as a pet and my answer to that was "Hell no!"

The skeever was no trouble, and more interesting than the rabbit. A nice glossy healthy mini skeever would have been preferred though, it still looked a bit diseased.

I definitely reloaded until I got a mudcrab. The animations for it crack me up.

I killed Cotton as well. Not out of spite just because I wanted to see the mudcrab or snow fox.

Not sure about the kids trying to adopt again.I may try a player moveto console command ,though I have no idea the ID of the pets.As long as the kids see the pet they will almost always ask to keep it.I have tried this with follower dogs and the dawngaurd husky.Everytime I brought one home Sophie immediatly approached me about keeping them.

Does each child ask for a pet or do you just get one?

Just search for the name of the pet.
Rabbit- Cotton
Skeever- Biter
Mudcrab- Pincer
Fox- Kit
Snow Fox- Vix
FB Spider- Doesn't actually exist as far as I can tell.

I don't know that the kids will pay attention to them at all if you do that, though (at least not in my experience). I also noticed that the girls bring in the rabbits and foxes whereas the boys bring the skeevers and mudcrabs.

18 replies to your thread so far, few of which have anything at all to do with the question you're asking. Seems nobody knows. I'd like to know the answer to this myself.

Im not sure. Aleson brought home a fox and i told him he could keep it when we lived in Whiterun. big mistake, that thing sounded like it was dying all the time. Then it up and dissapeared * and no i didn't kill it*. Lucia kept Meeko. Then later when we moved, he brought home a mudcrab. So im not sure if the pet died at whiterun or it was a glitch, but he ended up with the mudcrab and Lucia still had Meeko.

If you want to see a pet FB spider, just start the Dark Brotherhood questline, but don't quite go to the point where Commander Maro? Moro? burns the Sancturary. There is a pet FB spider there, but you can't move your children there. Probably for the better, too.

Babette might bite them. Especially girls like Runa or Lucia. Then they'll spend the next 300,000 years playing with dolls, having tea parties, and discussing their favorite assassination techniques.

Well I would hope the pet frostbite spider any of the boys bring home would be considerably smaller than the one in the DB sanctuary, or no they will not be keeping the monster. I hate spiders anyway.

I ended up getting the "non-aggressive" skeever in my basemant at Lakeview, but it was a nasty looking, disease-raddled thing that did nothing but sit there and snarl like it was getting ready to attack, so I killed it anyway.

I got lucky on the pets. Blaise wanted to keep Meeko as his pet, so I let him and then went and got Bran to be my dog follower. Lucia adopted the bunny.
