Console commands need to stop Jarl guards from attacking (pl

Post » Mon Aug 13, 2012 7:11 am

So I started a new game, got the quest to go to Bleakfalls Barrow and get the stone. I come back to check in and suddenly the Jarl's guards attack on-sight.

The Whiterun guards in general do not bother me, only the Jarl's men inside the reach. When I had left the reach after originally receiving the mission, I only bought a few things and caused no trouble (didn't whack anybody by accident).

I need to get whatever faction went wrong fixed. Searching online, I can only find commands to add to faction and a list of factions. I was hoping for a command to show what factions I belong to in case something got stuck there they don't like, but I can't find that. I also can't determine which faction the guards belong to. I also tried setting the relationshiprank to no avail. Anyone got any ideas?

Any help much appreciated!

If you are ONLY being attacked when you enter Dragonsreach, and not by the guards patrolling the city outside, you may have the "hidden bounty" glitch. This causes NPCs who are tagged as "law enforcment" (like the Jarl and his entourage and some Companions) to treat you as though you have an outstanding bounty in their hold, even though the regular guards everywhere else won't acknowledge it or attack/arrest you because of it. That is a problem because the only way to clear your bounty is to interact with one of the guards, and if they can't see any bounty you don't get an option to pay it off or serve your time.

You can try the console command

paycrimegold 0 0 000267EA

which should pay your bounty in Whiterun. You should not lose any stolen items or get teleported to the local jail.

You can also clear a hidden bounty by committing some small crime against or in the presence of a guard. Make sure it's something they will *catch* you doing. When that happens, take the option to pay your bounty and pay it. That should clear your name in the hold, including whatever hidden stuff is causing the Jarl's court to go hostile.
