Console Not Working Can't Build Assets

Post » Tue Nov 12, 2013 5:04 pm

The documentation for the Toolkit recommends to run an included buildAssets.cfg script to build the assets. No matter what I do, I can't get the developer console to drop down. Neither the ` or ~ key work out of the box. I've tried both editing the default.cfg (com_allowConsole 1) and using launch options in Steam (+set com_allowConsole 1) to enable the developer account. In no case can I get the console to drop down using ` or ~ or any combination of modifier keys combined with them.

I'm using an American/English keyboard and 64-bit Windows 8. I'm able to launch ID Studio and load a small subset of maps (Wellspring, The Well).

If anyone has any thoughts or suggestions, I would appreciate hearing them.

Thanks

Jeff

First, try whatever key is just to the left of the "1" key.

Second, do you have an Infrared Receiver? Usually it's for remote controls. Anyway, try disabling that device or the software that runs it and see if that works.

The `/~ key is the one just to the left of the "1" key, but I've tried pretty much every key on the keyboard.

I don't have an infrared receiver. I do have a wireless receiver for my XBox360 controller. I'll try running without that and see if it makes a difference. Thanks.

*Update* Doesn't seem to make a difference. I'm going to try rebooting without the controller plugged in and see if that works.

Now, just to make sure, can you put a ~ in a text document? I mean, let's make sure the key works in the first place.

After you start up ID Studio, exit out and open up:

C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\rage tool kit\SAVES\base\qconsole.log

Does it report any error logs in regards to reading in your cfg files. For example, is it possible that you are not running as a administrator but maybe you installed it as an administrator and the computer is hitting access violations when it tries to open the files?

Might also try setting it up to run in a windows compatibility mode. Windows 8 didn't exist when Rage was created. You may have to configure the game to run in a windows 7 or vista mode.

(These are all just guesses).
