constant lock ups and loading screens

Post » Sun Feb 03, 2013 3:42 pm

As title says. Getting lock ups when doing anything from walking to fast traveling (totally random)
Also getting stuck on loading screens not freezing just constantly loading.
Worked fine before the dlc would get a freeze maybe once or twice a week but its happening atleast once in a 3 hour session.
Running installed to a 120gb HDD on a arcade jasper model.
Tried all the usual fixes, game cache and system cache cleared. Not over heating.

Constant lag, and freezing. Loading screens take forever and ever. Discovered that turning off all the autosaves and cleaning the cache worked. Also discovered that keeping a smaller amount of saves also works. Have had only a few minor lags since doing this

XBox 360 slim / 250gb / Skyrim, DG, HF, DB installed / 5 saves totalling 60mb / 175gb free / All autosaves turned off

This. Big difference after I deleted extra saves from all profiles and any garbage leftover from other games/apps/demos. The only hiccup I noticed is when the game will do its own Autosave during certain quests.

It worked for me, although I miss my autosaves, I will go without them and make hard saves if it improves the game, which it did

Same issue here. Really long loading times.

The game freezes a lot now.

Hopefully this is resolved in the next patch. I noticed it immediately after downloading the DLC as well before I even arrived on Solstheim and started the DLC in game.

Turn off all your auto saves, clear out the cache 3x every time you go to the dashboard, and keep your hard saves down to 6. It stopped all the freezes, and hard crashes for me. Now I only get a few lags once in a while.

Do you have the 1.8 patch installed?

Going to have a play with auto saves. Have it turned off on travel but always like to have some form of auto as its a pain when the game glitches out after not saving for an hour.

Update. No auto saves and still freezing

I just found out yesterday that my son has all 2700+ saves still on his profile going back to 11/2011, for multiple characters and has never deleted a thing ever?! :o His lockup/lags are minimal, as mine are too (I keep few saves, often no autosaving). A constant factor across his and my games in the house: Our Xbox essentially runs "cold," with a lot of heat dissipation in its local environment.

I had alot of problems also. Have a fairly new xbox, and as listed above, it helped for me. I also went and purchased one of those exterior cooling fans made just for the xbox, and it also helps. I am not a tech, but usually if something helps for one, sometimes it helps for another. I have all the dlc's plus Skyrim installed, but I even limited myself to how many saves I have on the hard drive.

GStaff has also posted some new stuff at the top that might help.

Lock ups here too. Mostly when starting combat, but I also get them periodically when I'm just walking. To the point where it's unplayable.

I've cleared my cache multiple times and that helped for a few minutes, then the issue came back.

Started a new character to see if that would work and I froze up duringthe Alduin attack in Helgen.

I'm tired of restarting my Xbox every 5 minutes. I'm going to wait until the next patch.

I have had autosaving turned ever since that 1.6 patch sabotagued my game, but since Dragonborn insists on autsaving at least my second character Aussie has the freezing problem, the third Rork is too hopeless at fighting to be viable and I have not tried my first character Braggen, I have doubts he could even get past the first autosave point.

Unless some kind person can come up with a list of all the places with compulsory autosaving I need to avoid, my choices are give up till the next patch, or uninstall the game cache, game and all the DLC, and reinstall everything for a squeaky clean game, which would only be a temporary solution to the autosaving problem. And I am not at all sure I consider it worth going to all that trouble.

a list of all the places with compulsory autosaving I need to avoid

The forced-autosave parts I've found (with my own autosaves turned off) are
a) when transitioning between Skyrim and Solstheim: you're on the boat, a couple sec of free movement allowed, an "extended pause" (not a true freeze) of several sec with no movement, and then a mandatory autosave, and then free movement allowed again;

b ) similar behavior when transitioning between Solstheim and Apocrypha.

What is this? The PS3 version?

Same here, just turned on the game and 4 seconds later it froze up *no, it was not in the process of autosaving*, and this was on Skyrims main land. That is probably the 7th or so hard freeze ive had since installing DB, and that isnt counting the rest of the problems...
Theres a lot more FPS drops, stuttering, freezing and crashing, if this keeps up im gonna have to shelve this game.

I know autosaving is doing something here, but it seems DB forces autosaves at certain points, and it's those that have a tendancy to freeze the game... as for the rest though, well, no idea, but what ever it is they really need to sort it out, unless they treat us like the PS3 community...
