Constructive Bug Information

Post » Tue May 15, 2012 7:12 pm

This thread is to hopefully create a list of data of cause and effect bug testing. If you would like to join in the thread all you have to do is list what bug(s) you are experiencing, what troubleshooting steps you have taken (if any), if the problem was fixed or not, and your current system specs. It is my hope that we could potentially give a more comprehensive data set so that the employees working on the issue might have a speedier and more complete picture of what problems are still current. This is not a thread to bash, berate, flame, or troll. It is also not the place for feedback on problems. If you are a kind person who would like to give feedback to someone still having a problem, please send them a private message or contact them in a different thread. That being said, here is my issue:

Initial Bug: Rage crashes straight from steam launch

Second Bug: Rage stops working after intro video.

Third Bug: After the "bizarre fix" (explained later), I was able to start the game with a massive amount of texture problems

Troubleshooting: After updating my drivers failed to fix the first bug I decided that I would give a fresh install of windows a try. After installing Windows, the most current drivers, Steam, and Re-installing Rage the initial bug seemed to have been Fixed. I then encountered another bug when I launched the campaign. The second bug did not seem dependent on ANY in-game video settings. I tried each difficulty with each various video setting configuration (i.e. default, x2 AA + rest default, x4AA + rest default and so forth until all maxed). Upon further searching I came across the http://www.gamesas.com/index.php?/topic/1240971-bizarre-fix-2-how-i-got-rage-to-work/ and after spending the 5 minutes it took to follow the steps I was able to achieve the third bug. I was able to start the game with Vsync on, however I hit the second bug after any change in the video settings thereafter.

System:
Windows Vista Home Premium 32-bit
AMD Phenom II X4 955 3.2Ghz
3327 MB Ram
M4A79XTD EVO Asus MoBo
ATI Radeon HD 5770 1GB GDDR5

Notes: I have the Anarchy Edition of Rage with the extra DLC that it comes along with downloaded and installed as well. Also Please note that I was unable to find my 64-bit copy of my OS (Which in all honesty could account for some of the problems.)
