Controller revamp - add another quickslot (Console)

Post » Wed Jan 23, 2013 3:56 am

So PS3 and Xbox360 has two quickslots on the D-pad - Left and Right. Both Up and Down access the Favorites. This is moronic. We don't need two buttons for the same function.

Fix: Left, Right and Up should be Quickslots. D-pad Down should be Favorites.

Pros: A third quickslot!
Cons: None.

Opinions?

Do away with the favourites menu entirely and bring back the quickslot wheel from Oblivion, I say. That's 8 different things that you dont have to stop the game to access.

Made playing Mages far more fluid, imo.

I have thought about this same idea and I don't see why it wouldn't work. Or the quick wheel might also be a good idea.

No, no that's too much work for Beth. Just remove Favorite on Up and make it a quickslot instead, so we have 3 quickslots instead of only two.

How is it too much work to take a system they have already used and bring it to Skyrim?

But yeah, I will welcome any extra quick keys, if I'm honest.

Even so, I doubt the current system will be changed. They have more important things to do than change something that (fundamentally) works. However, for the next ES game...

To say the least it really svcks that the Favorites menu has TWO buttons. It's idiotic. What were they thinking?!

The quickwheel was nice in Oblivion, but it can be improved upon.

Do what they could do in RDR and have it show up on screen while holding a button and then wheel to your selection WHILE live in combat or whatever.

Or they could do a simplified version of what I do in SWTOR and use a modifier button (like UP) that one would hold and then press any other button which is bound to items. I have almost 40 button combinations in SWTOR and I use my PS3 controller for all my hotkeys.

Hehe, well get used to them now, and in a few weeks you will wish there were more than two!

Do you know you could buy a boat like a carriage in Windhelm & go to solitude or dawnstar ?

All I know is that they need to fix it so that each slot should be able to accurately account for both hands. I'd really like my next character to be an anti-magic dual-wielder who relies on archery for ranged attacks and maybe (?) does some sneaking. Anyway, I know I can forget about relying on the quickslots for switching between bow and dual-wielding melee, which means always having to open up the favorites ... yuck, that'll get old fast and not sure I want to subject myself to that torturous disappointment.

Regardless, a third (fourth, fifth ...) slot would be welcome indeed.

the favs menu is a terrible idea imo, it was supposed to stop you from pausing the game to switch gear by making you pause the game to switch gear in a smaller menu. i don't see any sense in this, the hotkeys from oblivion were much better and generally fit every need you could possibly have (mages? i would use a much larger variety of spells since it was posible to change without a menu. warriors? they don't need that much in the first place, maybe a few potions and a back-up weapon. archers? i'd switch between enchanted arrows for any situation)

Do away with the favourites menu entirely and bring back the quickslot wheel from Oblivion, I say. That's 8 different things that you dont have to stop the game to access.

Made playing Mages far more fluid, imo.

Shut up. Please don't tell me you are being serious.

If you really want to consolidate buttons there are 3 other buttons; wait, start menu and character menu should have all been consolidated into one menu but an organized one not like the current ones. Personally I would rather have a quicksave button rather than a wait button. It takes me at least 20sec to save a game on PS3.
