Corvo's "heft"

Post » Thu Aug 23, 2012 8:55 pm

I was wondering if anyone who's played the game could comment on the "heftiness" of Corvo and his movements. One of the lovely things about Thief 1&2, System Shock 2, and Dark Messiah was that the player character was animated in such a way that it really felt like you were inhabiting a real body that has some weight to it, rather than just a bobbing balloon.

This is something that's clearly tough to pull off, since those are about the only first person games I can think of that really get it. Thoughts?

I can add to this discussions. That was a problem I was fearing from day one and Harvey as well as other people from the team have commented on that. They were specifically wanting to make everything have weight, the swing animations, the movement and all be polished. And fortunately it seems like they've managed it. I send two colleagues to QuakeCon and specifically asked them to test that out as they normally do. They found it stellar. So far every journalist and game tester who's commented on that has mentioned that your movements and actions have weight and that it's really polished and fluid.

Arkane knows what it's doing and it shows. I would be glad if we can get more people who've actually tried the game on here. Would make for some interesting discussions. Let me see if I can make someone join the forums and talk about his or hers experience.
