What purpose do these serve?
They are the reason you have to do one of the Crimson Caravan quests.

I believe it is the last quest you receive from Alice of the crimson caravan.

Anyone else disappointed you can't use that bottlecap press for your own purposes and just SAY you destroyed it for Alice?

talk to Alice in the Crnisom Caravan office, this assumes that you have already talked to Cass at Mojave Outpost
How did you get into the press ? Can't find it just a locked door needing > 100 lockpick

that door is a lie.. i got fooled by it too.. waste me about hour to find a key for other door....
press is.. in the middle of the shipping room where all the boxes are..
i think it was yellowish machine..
