Couple of RP Guild ideas. Need input.

Post » Tue May 15, 2012 4:09 am

I have a few RolePlaying guild ideas for The Elder Scrolls:Online and I'd love to get some input. If your not a roleplayer or don't like roleplaying stay away.

The Merchants Legion (looking for a better name)

Basically what we would do is go around Tamriel selling goods with players, yeah I know "Theres already NPCs for this", but hold. I've been thinking of a small idea, we could give discounts if you make some sort of deal with us. For example "I'll give you a 50% discount if you can do *Insert some kind of deal to be made*. This could work with fellow guilds as well, if you need supplies we could make a deal like "If you protect our caravans we'll give you 75% off of armor and weapons". We'll have a headquarters in a selected province and city, and at least 1 office building in each province, if possible in TES:O. Chances of this guild happening could increase or decrease depending on what details surface about the game.

The Royal Guard

I'm sure you know what this guild is all about just by the name, but our job is to protect whoever is in power, let it be the Emperor, which is already confirmed to be a player, or the High Kings/Jarls/Kings & Queens of Provinces or Cities. Again this could or could not happen depending on what details surface. Whoever the Emperor is, let it be Chuck Norris or Ghandi, we will serve and protect.

I'll have more ideas later, but obviously this will require a lot of RolePlay to be successful, which I love doing. Let me know what you guys think!

I imagine this would be a challenge on a PvP enabled server, unless the Emperor happens to be a member of your faction.

It does sound like a fun group for RP, considering the various historical and literary examples of "Kingsguard" groups, often with their own rituals and customs.

No idea how the crafting and economy will work at this point, but this sounds like a great concept. I hope we will see this kind of interesting interaction between guilds.

I think the names are okay, thing is we really need to know a bit more about the crafting system or should i say about the whole crafting system. As for the Royal Guard, well that would be a mercenary for hire type scenario and you having a hand who places their butt on the throne is good.I would say that anyone who get's the big chair will have a serious force behind him already but their is always room for more arms for hire.

I think both ideas could work with some fine tuning,i'm always up for some RP in MMOs.

Thank you for the input BootySweat & Sheek-Ki, I'm glad you guys like the overall ideas. Again it's quite hard to say how these guilds will turn out maybe a year before the game will come out. I hope it all works out though, I'm very excited for the game and for the guilds.

Once the official forums goes up I'll be posting both guilds to see how much feedback they get pre-game and see if I could do it once we get full details on the game.

I have some ideas as well; this one expands on what you already suggested for the Royal Guard; the Citizens of Cyrodiil. Basically, the guild would seek to simulate the feeling that Cyrodiil isn't just about the capital but also it's inhabitants. Basically, give the emperors people to rule. People that might slowly have become indifferent of their leaders and wish simply for their own survival.

That and I want to see a Khajiit clan caravanning the world. But that's only possible if neutrality is an option.

That's a fantastic idea, I would definetly join that. The question is will TES:O have enough role players or will it be all Pvprs?

It's up to the community what they want to make of the game, will it be all about battles or are we going to make it an Elder Scrolls game?

I realize there can be hurdles to RP communication with others while you are in the middle of a battle, trying to avoid being killed.

However, I don't see why they would necessarily be mutually exclusive. I think inter-faction tensions and epic scale battles can provide some framework for interesting RP scenarios.

I think that planning will actually be more important when conquering Cyrodiil, which certainly is one of the roleplayers' stronger suits. Sure, many roleplayers are lax about actually joining such events, but we communicate on several levels about such planning on multiple levels (IC and OOC). Hopefully, it gives us an edge, somewhat.

Also note that the technology used to create the argentarchives.org site is much more developed now and has seen many SWTOR variants. Personally, I think we should be able to create such a website a year beforehand to choose a website for our endeavours collectively.

This, absolutely. I am super excited for all the political dealings and alliances that come out of the 3-faction PvP conflic.

I hope we start to see lots of specialized RP groups start up, too. I'm planning to play a mid-ranking Redguard infantry soldier with a lot of bravado and pride in the Hammerfell military.

This is where you have different servers: ie PVE-PVP-PVPRP-PVERP. So what you have is a PVP role player server, that way fans of both head to that server, that's one of the great things about MMO,you can peruse your gaming style through your server choice.

You could actually take it one further like a certain RP guild in LOTRO on the Laurelin server.Their members actually garrison the town of Bree, man the gates at night and protect the good folk.I forget the name of the guild but if you join you are expected to do your guard duty across middle earth, great fun IMO.

They also send members out into the world to hunt certain mobs that are causing problems for local travellers, the RP is endless.

It could still work - you would just concentrate on actively fighting the third side and spying on "your" side for the Emperor (relying troop movements, plans and so on to him or her).

I really do hope so. I plan on playing a nordic diplomat and strategist, and if we can get all the factions to strategise, have councils, engage in diplomatic missions etc. then this might just become one of the best games ever made.

Oh, and line battles. They are the most fun you can have in gaming. Period.

A third idea I had was creating a guild of Bonsamu vampires. Basically, they pose and act and do as normal bosmer; they cannibalize their enemies after their defeat, etc. They constantly appear to be simply highly traditionalist bosmer who take the Green Pact very seriously. If any traditionalist bosmer would know of their true identity, however, they'd probably claim these vampires to be the bane of Y'ffre. Potentially, they perform necromancy as well, but I think this art is better reserved for Khajiit

Thank you for all of your awesome responses! I'm glad your supportive of the ideas and are suggesting more.

Very true actually, I'm sad to say I really overlooked that aspect. I now see what the RP can do in terms of battle and do believe it could possibly give it a certain edge and increase the interest in it for me.

It could still work - you would just concentrate on actively fighting the third side and spying on "your" side for the Emperor (relying troop movements, plans and so on to him or her).
This is exactly what I would like to see in this guild, I'd be proud to see you in the Royal Guard, solider.

Discovered a huge flaw in The Royal Guard, the Imperial City (GameInformer Article spoiler ->)
Spoiler
is like Kvatch, a hostile city
. How would I be able to station my troops there if it is like that? Will we have to rely on an outside city, castle, farm, something?

From what I understand, it starts off hostile, but becomes friendly to the dominant faction (and maybe all) once it has been successfully 'conquered' throughout the PvP zone.

Don't think so. Just remember that Skyrim hasn't been oppressed by anyone recently and you'll be fine. In fact, it is Skyrim that wants to conquest the surroundings nations at the moment, for valor.
