Courier Missions

Post » Sun Dec 26, 2010 10:18 am

it occurred to me today that, as a courier, our main character prolly has a great deal of work ahead of him. after all, surely there are more people with messages/mail/packages to send. i would like to see a series of missions in which you have to travel back and forth from town to town, making sure things arrive safely. perhaps this would be a good way to keep you in caps throughout. call them "Postman Missions" for an added post-apocalyptic spin, if you'd like...

I do remember hearing in a demo that you can take certain "courier" type missions
but I never speculated on it much.
I really thought they might be simple grab'n'go missions for extra caps.

In all my many years of gaming I would never have though anyone would REQUEST fetch quests to be in a game. Its worse than a fetch quest, it's a fetch, then deliver quest.

Seriously though, why would you still be working for the company after you were shot in the head then mysteriously returned to life? You'd just say to yourself, "thank god that's over" and go back to work?

Seems pretty likely. Usually you don't give the character an occupation just to use for some opening sequence, never to return to it again.... The fact that a courier can be employed by almost anyone also helps in terms of telling a story through a character that has a reason to be simply "wandering".
I look forward to some unusual courier jobs.

I'm pretty sure those parcels will encumber you so you can't fast travel. The journey from Primm to Jacobstown is gonna be sweet.

It's a tough wasteland out there, people will do anything for caps these days... ;)

I recall mention in a E3 demonstation video (might have been the Game Trailers one but I don't rememeber and are too lazy to investigate) that there is indeed a Mojave Express, a courier business that the player can get involved with.

I disagree. Firstly, I do enjoy escort missions, if for no other reason than I have trouble keeping my party alive and this adds another level of difficulty for me. ><

Secondly, I didn't really think about the courier belonging to any kind of a company, altho I suppose there would have to be some kind of central hub for it. I thought of it more in the terms of "I'm fairly good at keeping myself alive on the road, how could I make money doing this?"

Maybe taking the Courier route would allow certain benefits...being granted access to different locations, for example, in order to deliver a message.

Been looking forward to this since we first started calling him "The Courier". :)

"Oh! You're back, great! We need you to fill in for Dave, he lost his arm and Tim died from a raider gunshot to the head, he wasn't as lucky as you. We need you to deliver these Deathclaw treats to this address but be warned, they can smell them a mile away and will come running."

Yep, the Mojave Express will provide low-pay, repetive, FedEx missions for the Courier.

I bet there will be other courier missions but I hope it's a small fraction of the quests. After getting shot twice in the head. Buried in a shallow grave and then miraculously saved. The last thing I would want to do is go back to being delivery boy.

I think there may be a special quest for the Mojave Express that have the same risks as the one that got you shot in the head twice....

Hell, thats probably just a dull monday in the wastelands.

I doubt that would stop him from making a buck considering most of the stuff people will do to survive in this world.

It's got to be easier than some of the other crazy things people are going to ask you to do.

They are confirmed. I would like to have both Courier missions and Caravan jobs be good, recurring quests that actually give you an objective rather than a "Give us what you find" type thing. Other than recurring ones, there should also be some unique deliveries or unique guarding jobs that you can take as well.

I have faith in Obsidian that they would know better than to make the courier job a rudimentary fetch quest generator.

I imagine they'll throw in some interesting obstacles, detours and clients along the way.

Well there's no need to be such a downer about it either. It would obviously be optional side-quests, so YOU don't have to play them if you really don't like them so much, pretty simple lol.

Personally i would like them, and its not like when you take up the job that they're like "alright take this package to Primm but you only get paid if you bee-line it all the way there without stopping to fight anyone/anything and exploring anything along the way is strictly forbidden." lol

Usually when I take up a courier style quest it's when i'm already headed that direction or specific location, kill two birds with one stone i say.

That'd be really cool, IMO. For added realism, they could make it so you can't fast travel - i.e. you have to walk from town A to settlement B, fending off any enemies that come along the way.

Just hope they'd pay a good amount. :foodndrink:
Now, I don't want these to be major side quests, just a fun little thing you could do, if you wanted, for a small stash of caps.
