Crafting ancient nord armor

Post » Wed Jun 06, 2012 10:42 pm

I've done the companions quest line and spoken to the guy at the skyforge. My smithing is at 70. Do I have to take the daedric perk for this armor to be available? Everythig ive read says that id the section that it shows up in.

Any help would be appreciated.

You must be a the skyforge for the option to appear, but you do not need the Daedric perk to craft the armor, even though it appears in the "Daedric" section. Taking the perk will allow you to improve it better, however.

Course it is still pretty poor armor. I really wish there was a way to bump it up more, but I guess it is a piece of 'old fashioned' armor.

Thank you for the replies. I did try the other night, at the skyforge, but there was no daedric option and the armor wasn't in another section. Do I need 100 smithing perhaps?

Check here to see if you have done everything needed first, but you don't need 100 Skill or a perk to make it (the perk just helps you upgrade it).

Did you finish finish Companion's quest? Are you the harbinger of the Companions?

I can get it past the cap with Heavy Armor 100 (no perks), but it takes a lot of jumping through hoops: 4 pieces of +25% Fortify Smithing gear and a +125% Fortify Smithing potion.

Edit: OK, I misremembered: apparently I still have to use some Fortify Heavy Armor enchants.

Really? If you got the perk and no special gear/potions, I wonder what you can get it up to. I tend to only Perk one crafting skill per character do prevent being over-powered. Though I do keep a few blacksmith potions I find and have a Smithing amulet I found +15%.

I can check right quick.

Edit:
With only my Smithing skills (100 and all perks):
Ancient Nord Armor: 77
Ancient Nord Boots: 35
Anciet Nord Gauntlets: 35
Ancient Nord Helmet: 43

With 4*+25% Fortify Smithing gear and +120% Fortify Smithing Potion:
Ancient Nord Armor: 179
Ancient Nord Boots: 86
Anciet Nord Gauntlets: 86
Ancient Nord Helmet: 94

Do you remember if Eolund Gray-Mane gave you long sentimental speech about Kodlak's soul etc when you spoke to him?

I just tried this. I went to Skyforge and verified that Ancient Nord armor was listed in the Daedric section. Then I removed my Daedric perk via console. Then checked if I still had the Ancient Nord Armor option under Daedric. I did.

I think you might have to return after you've freed kodlaks spirit from the wolf not after kodlaks funeral. Also after you beat the companions,.eorland will sell ancient nord and wolf armor to you...both arent strong but can be upgraded with smithing

Also you can find a full set of ancient nord armor on the 1st spirit you find in forelhost iirc

It's a dungeon with lots of ghosts. They all wear ancient nord armor. You can get 6 full sets from there at least.

Dang, so a 190 AR vs. a 445 AR (not including a shield). Are both those Legendary or can you even get up to Legendary without the skill boost?

To be honest I hate the fact that there are several levels of Legendary. When I made my first Legendary item I wanted to think that it was the best, that nothing could be better, so I wouldn't have to worry about it anymore. But then I found out I could make an even better Legendary item with the skill boost. That just kind of blows the whole upgrading scale completely.

Oh, yeah, sorry: in both of those scenarios the armor is Legendary. :P I was also confused by the "Legendary" tag at first and I'm not sure why there isn't a hard cap on armor improvement. Maybe in expansions we'll need to go beyond the overall rating of 567.

Now that I think about it: I did get past the armor cap without Fortify Heavy Armor enchants because I was also carrying a Legendary Blades Shield. :P

Well I love the fact that you can make just about any armor in the game usable with some upgrades. Makes playing with style more practical. My current character was wearing only fur armor until she found a set of Scale armor.

For anyone curious, Ancient Nord Armor has the same base AR as iron, so it's pretty terrible unimproved. Thanks to the Daedric perk, however, you can improve it much better.

Oh, great. Now you tell me...after I wasted all those iron and steel ingots and leather strips. :o :P

I've been able to make 130% smithing potions. O_o Did I mess something up? Used 32% alchemy and enchanting boost I believe

No, that sounds about right. I just stopped at +25% Fortify Alchemy gear because I'm too lazy to do the Fortify Enchanting-Fortify Alchemy leapfrog. :P

My main goal was to be able to get Forsworn Armor past the cap on my chick with the Light Armor perks.
