Crafting.....and a mage ?

Post » Wed Jan 16, 2013 10:40 am

My first character is a 26 ranger.I have pushed hard on crafting and am close to 70.

My question is about mage characters and crafting. I see very little on my characters Black Smith crafting menue to make what directly relates to a mage.

Do you just make clothes and hope to uncover enchantments for garments you find or make ?

As a mage I want to have jaw droppingly beautiful clothes. Are those abilitys found in a mod...or the basic game ?

Thanks for your help

A pure mage does not benefit from Smithing. The only thing you'd ever want to smith is jewelry and you can already do that straight fro mthe start. If you want to craft beautiful clothes, you'll have to sue mods. There are no jaw droppingly beautiful clothes in vanilla.

However, a mage profits a lot from enchanting (just like everybody else does). Especially if you're focusing on Destruction.

If you're playing on higher difficulties, it's worth it to invest in some dependable armor for your mages (either through Light/Heavy Armor perks or Smithing). I hate Flesh Spells, because they cost too much magicka and they generally don't yield great result (since a lot of enemies will just go through all your armor in one-hit).

On the aesthetic, you should try out combinations. IMO, Armors usually looks better than clothes.

Other than making Jewlery to Enchant, Smithing does not help Mages much, other than a source of income. Or if you are a Battlemage or Hybrid that would wear Armor.

Now, Enchanting, which is considered Crafting can help Mages.

Alchemy is another Crafting skill that can help all characters but probably more so those who do not use Spells.
