crash on cell load

Post » Fri Jan 18, 2013 7:31 am

Hi everyone first post here.

I've been trying to make this work since...i would say a year

Never took the time to ask on the web but now i do since i would really like to fix this and also because it make no sense to me whats so ever why it does'nt work.

So here is the problem:

I run Skyrim at ugridtoload=11 because i hate to see things poping up.

My PC runs it rather easily i would say since i have an 2600K @ 4.6 ghz CPU, an SSD drive, 16 gb of RAM and SLI GTX 580 2GB.

But the game will always crash to desktop when i enter certain cells. Around Solitude and somewhere between Riverwood and Falkreath where there's lot of trees. (so its basically almost always ok but just very few cells...but its still ruin the game..)

This is with a fresh install. Tried many many things. Even without mods its doing this. (except ugrid change to 11)

One of my friend is running the game at ugrid=11 without crashes..and his computer is not as high end as mine, so i wonder why on mine its doing this.

If someone has an idea please it would be great!

Thank you.

Jay.

Changing uGrids beyond the default of 5 is asking for trouble. 11 is just plain suicide.

Well I guess it depend on the system, if I put it to 9 its pretty much 100% crash free and it runs great.

And like I said my friend is running it at 11 without troubles, like many people so..

Hope someone can help here. :) I've tried so many things. Maybe it's a matter of config combo I dont know...

Doesn't matter. uGrids is problematic. You'd do best to leave it at 5.

The engine cannot even handle 7. Anything above five can cause strange issues, one being AI not working properly.

Trying to make the game work above 5 is a crapshoot.

Object poping is so immersion breaking... :/

There's good mods for HD trees lods etc so it look good from afar but the poping is still there so..only thing i know that can fix this is upping the ugrid damn.

It doesn't matter.

Seriously, uGrids is problematic at best, suicide at worst.

uGrids isn't just LOD. It loads the entire content of the cells, exponentially increasing the load with each value.

Yeah i know what the ugrid setting does, it's not just LODs..it's AI too and everything. :)

I know it exponentiall too, at 9 it runs prettty smooth with no crashes at all, or once in a long while so it's ok.

But from 9 to 11 the drop in performance is huge, but still pretty smooth on my system thats why i wonder why it crash at just these specific cells while 95% of all the other ones are ok.. weird :)

But hey testing it right now at 9, smooth as butter, and with the lod's mod it look great and the poping is really hard to spot and i look for it.

Its easy to spot when on the plains... but in the forst etc its almost flawless so if i cant make 11 to work then its not that bad at all.

But would really like to put the finger on it nonetheless you know? But yeah...the engine...I know man it's hard and not made for this. :) But if it's working for some others with less powerfull system then..it should work on mine too.
