Crash count [PC]?

Post » Thu May 10, 2012 1:03 am

Crashes after play would be nice. I crash the second I click NEW GAME. After waiting over an hour on freakin STEAM, this is what I get, a game that is unplayable. Way to test.

Just curiously, do you guys get old Oblivion style CTDs, or simply freezes like I do?

Zero so far, been playing for about 5 hours or so I guess? I did an hour on my older machine first, to test Steam really, then migrated the game to my main gaming rig once I was happy. Both machines were fine.

Scoob.

If you are getting ctd, then that's your problem not the games. 0 crashes in over 10 hours.

Crash to desktop. The game is running amazingly smooth for me, and I should clarify I'm at about 7 hours total, and 4 crashes - 2 went to the desktop without any error, 2 went to desktop with windows usual "Skyrim crashed unexpectedly" (or whatever the real message is).

I'm not too fussed, like I say, the game has millions of things I love.

People thinking it's my setup are wrong. I have the newest drivers, and have played many more demanding games than Skyrim. My PC really only crashes in Bethesda games truthfully... Many Fallout crashes, many Oblivion crashes. I think Bethesda usually iron the bugs out a few patches down the line (Oblivion now, doesn't seem to ever crash).

0 in 5 hours, and my framerate is smooth :)

Only thing kinda nagging at me a bit is the shadows.

3 crashes for me in 7 hours.

On the bright side, at least they have been graceful crashes, and I could just re-start the game without a re-boot. no save game corruptions either, which is a blessing.

I've put in at least a dozen hours at this point, and just experienced my first CTD about an hour ago. That was also the first glitch or bug of any kind I've come across

Those people aren't necessarily wrong, it could be that the newest driver for whatever card you're using doesn't like skyrim. Just because you have the newest drivers and can play other games without a problem doesn't mean that skyrim will run perfectly for you.

I've had 0 crashes, which really surprises me seeing as Oblivion and Fallout crashed so often for me. But so far Skyrim seems really stable and well optimised. It even exists to desktop instantly, unlike Oblivion which crashed on exit

one of the most stable releases I've ever played....6 hours total, not one glitch or crash for me...barely scratched the surface of the game too.

but fwiw, I reformatted last weekend too though...so my pc is squeaky clean

for the sake of record keeping, older system running

WIn vista 64
Asus rampage mb
intel quad-core 2.4g
gtx 560 ti
raptor 150 hdd
8 gigs ram
pcp&c 610 psu

running on high settings

I've had 0 crashes in about 10 hours of gameplay. The game runs smooth as silk, only noticeable flaw is long loading (5 seconds freeze) when you enter a new area. Loading savegames and changing cells also happens awesomely fast. I never expected the game to work as good as it does right now. I'm using high-medium DX9 settings, with shadows turned low, no grass, AA and Anisotrop filtering turned off. Anything else is maxed out on resolution 1600x900. I don't even have a good system considered to todays standard.

Athlon X2 64 bit 6000+ dual core (2x3.09 Ghz)
3 GB of RAM at 1.066 Mhz
Nvidia 9600 GT with 512 MB
Onboard sound I think Realtek or Via
Windows XP SP3

One crash, immediately after installation(had a missing DirectX audio dll). After verifying the files, no problems since.

0 crashes 3 hours in. Please post your specs for comparison

win7 64-bit
Asus P6T - i920 @ 3.04GHz
4GB memory
GTX 580

Honestly, I am really impressed with the lack of bugs. I have only seen one bug where a wolf froze in mid air and stayed there. No shimmering, no crashes, no weird artifacts. The shadows look like crap though.

FYI - HardOCP is reporting that Radeon cards are having all kinds of problems from mouse lag to popping to shimmering and low frame rates.

I've had 1 crash in 6 hours, and that happened while I was tinkering with console settings. I've also had no problem with my mouse - I've been able to use my mouse in the inventory screen, menu's, etc (which people were reporting as an issue). Oh and my audio is working without any issue's either. I'm using ultra settings with everything maxxed. Game runs smooth for me - not having/seeing any shimmering, mouse lag or such myself (not saying this isn't an issue for others.. just that I'm not seeing it personally).

Windows 7 Ultimate 64-bit
8GB memory
Onboard Realtek ALC889 Codec/sound
Gigabyte GA-890FX-UD5 - Phenom II x4 965 @ 3.7GHz
Sapphire Vapor-X Radeon HD5870 1gb x2 (in CFX, have not disabled.. have not checked if CFX is working/supported with Skyrim) - using 11.9 drivers.
