Oblivion crashes to desktop (oblivion has encountered a problem) right when I start moving around in the jail right after I make a character. I am using the steam version of Oblivion. On lower settings I noticed it didn't crash, but on the higher settings it did. My game can run Dragon Age on its highest settings, so I'm not sure the problem. I deleted the .ini file in the documents/mygames folder but still no go. I have a feeling its hardware issues.

First thing that stands out is the Memory in System Information. ~1500 Megabytes? Either you copied it wrong, or you're missing a few RAM sticks. That would definitely cause a crash, since the rest of your specs look ok.

Because you are using onboard audio, try disabling music through the .ini file. Open the file with Notepad and do a CTRL+F to search for this line:

bMusicEnabled=1

change that value to 0 and save the file. Then try again. This game can have issues with onboard audio with music being rather strenuous.



And 1.5GB of RAM is on the low side for a Windows 7 setup. One part of the report that is really standing out is the page file used:

My computer has 2 slots for RAM, and yes the data was right, I looked at the ram sticks. How much ram should I get and what size in gigabytes?

Well, before jumping the gun and buying more RAM, you should figure out getting the game to work first. Regardless of low RAM, the game should still run for the most part.

Before I read the last post, I replaced the 536 mb ram card with 1 gig of ram from my old pc that i wasn't using. Now the game is running just fine and isn't crashing. I didn't try HD lighting yet but everything seems fine on the sewers, the outside areas, in the city, and the loading times etc. Only thing I could see doing is adding a little bit more ram to improve the speed of things. I'm not sure exactly what ram cards my motherboard can handle.

Your motherboard can handle 8GB over the two DIMM slots...so 2x4GB is the max, but would be a complete waste since your operating system is only 32-bit. The more practical upgrade would be to get 2x2GB to have 4GB of RAM total....your operating system won't see all of it, but it's less of a sacrifice. Glad to know you got it working for free though.
