Crash immediately after loading.

Okay. I started and it loaded to just as it was showing the skyrim logo. Then it crashed to the desktop.

After a quick read in these forums I found the solution.

Your sound settings need to be lowered to 24 bit, 48000 Hz. If it's at 24 bit, 192000 Hz it crashes.

For Win7 right click on your speaker icon in the bottom right task tray.

Select Sounds

Double Click on whatever default playback device you use (should have a green check mark on it).

Hit the Advanced Tab

Default Format dropdown

24 bit, 48000 Hz should be selected by you.

Hopefully will fix it.

That hurts... I have the same problem here and it was fixed by this. Another developer who better should work on a farm instead on a computer.

My experience was very different although many other places are reporting that this works.

What happened is that the game crashes once. Then it played fine for about half an hour. I exited the cave, saved, then saw this thread. Applied the fix, and now the game won't even load, even though I set the audio back to the default setting!!!

ARRRGH!

Pc gaming can be awesome but don't expect the developers to care about a "platform" that is much less lucrative and harder to develop for.

Which is pretty messed up in my eyes as seeing how they make these games on a computer. You don't sit down in front of a Xbox to make a Xbox game. You make it on a PC and then make it work on a Xbox. How is it that it can't be working on the machines it was created with? Irony is a @%^$#*...

The fix is the correct idea, but I can run the game successfully at one step higher (96000HZ). Thank you. (Holy crap, how did you stumble upon this solution?)

Also, this needs to be STICKY.

EDIT: Never mind, 96000HZ is a bad idea. The OP's post is ENTIRELY correct, as 96000 seems to cause a crackling audio issue. Weird that the game can only handle 48000HZ. :|

Well, that's bogus, but also a relief because OP spared an angry rant on my part.

FWIW, this is also the same idiocy that broke Gothic 4 after installation. It wouldn't run unless default audio output had been lowered to 48K.
