Crashing when opening barter menu

Post » Fri Dec 24, 2010 12:13 am

Hello all.
I was wondering if anyone knows how to fix the problem I am currently having. There seems to be a problem in my game where in my existing save, I crash whenever I try and open a barter menu. However, when I open a barter menu in a new save, I don't get this problem. Anyone know why, and how to fix this?

Same problem here.. and when going to the weapons section the pipboy. No fix... no help. I made a post a few days ago, no response. I can't even get passed the character creation of a new game without it crashing.

This is most likely a conflict between two (or more) mods that alter the stats of the same weapon or item.
I had this with 'Modifiable Unique Weapons' (MUW) whenever I used it in combination with any other mod that altered damage or health of one of the uniques that it deals with.

The fastest way to find conflicts between mods is to download FNVEdit: http://www.newvegasnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=34703

Follow the instructions and run it; the mods with conflicts should be in bold letters. Then look at them: the conflicting items will be marked red, and the mod that it conflicts with will be listed in a second column.

If you are lucky, experimenting with load order may already solve the issue (put the biggest and most important mod's .esp last in the order).
To modify load order, use the Fallout Mod Manager: http://www.newvegasnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=36901

If load order does not help, I'm afraid you will have to use only one of those mods, and deactivate the conflicting ones.

I tried the game with all of my mods, and none of my mods, and I still get the problem.

You have to be careful with mods. They can cause lots of issues. They arent supported by bethesda and should be used at your own risk.

You can try this if your loading quicksave or autosave:
Your quicksave overwrites itself everytime you use it. However, it creates a backup of the quicksave before it overwrites it. If you look in C:\Users\\Documents\My Games\FalloutNV\Saves
you should find the file quicksave.fos.bak. Simply move the original quicksave.fos elsewhere and change the filename on the backup by removing the .bak portion of the name. This should restore the quicksave backup.
The autosave works the same way.

I have tried using both a normal save, and an autosave, and I still crash.

And I am using more mods in a different save, and I can access barter menus fine.

Then the problem is probably a corrupted save. Unfortunately they happen. Glad that you can get into a different save at least and play.
