I'm creating Customized Skyrim Character Statues (3D Prints)

Post » Wed Dec 05, 2012 8:38 pm

Long time Elder Scrolls fan and avid lurker of the forums -- First post!

I'll cut right to the chase -- I put together a team of 3D artists and outsourced 3D printing in order to create customized replica statues of your Skyrim characters. There's a service for WoW players with figureprints, I've emulated their business model pretty closely.

I'm calling it, "DreamFigures", for now (open to suggestions on the name). Essentially you log on and let us know what type of character you play with (race, armor, weapons, etc.), pick a cool pose that you'd like to see your statue in, click 'print', and we do the rest!! I designed a program within the creation kit that aggregates all in-game models relevant to your character and exports them to 3D modeling software. From there, my team and I make the models look pretty and optimize them for print!

I'll link the launch page below, I'm trying to get a sense of interest for the statues so if you could let me know what you think, or put your email address down on the launch page it would be super helpful!

If you guys want to see any pictures of our initial prototypes i'd be happy to show you!

(Sorry for the shameless self-promotion, I figured at least some of you might be as excited as I am about this!)

Sure, I would love to see some prototypes, could you do anything else besides player characters(even though that's awesome) like some enemies?

Great to see some interest!

I have considered making some prints of enemies and various other NPC's in the game -- the problem with this is that you run the risk of encroaching on pre-existing licensing agreements that other toy manufacturers have with Bethesda. First Four Figures (the company that made the Alduin statues for the CE) has a licensing agreement with Bethesda and I'm not quite sure what the parameters are. I'll definitely look into it if there's interest.

I'm currently printing out of a warrior model that my team created (pics of digitized model below) -- I'll post pictures once the prints are finished.
(As I'm still in the process of negotiating a licensing agreement with Bethesda myself, I'm hesitant to post any pictures of Bethesda IP!!! )

That is some incredible detail my friend. I'd imagine the demand for these to be huge. You could be rich.

Hell, I'd be willing to buy one right now, especially since they're unique. As long as they're not too expensive.

Also, what are they made of? Are they sturdy? Wouldn't want it breaking apart.

I'd be very impressed if you could translate that level of detail into a figure. Are you going PVC like the Alduin statue?

I'll be following this very closely.

No plastic for these models.
As of now we've got two options for printing -- EnvisionTEC (Perfactory P3 Mini Multi Lens) and ZCorp (450 Color model)

EnvisionTEC is going to give a MUCH higher level of detail (see example in next post)
(these aren't my models -- they were done by another company using an EnvisionTEC model)
ZCorp will give a lower quality exterior finish -- BUT will be able to print in color. (see example in next post)

Any feedback you guys can offer will be EXTREMELY helpful to me! I need to know what you guys want: Are you willing to sacrifice a bit of detail for some color, or would you rather have extremely detailed statues with a solid material finish?

Check out the launch page up top if you'd like to be added to our emailing list -- you'll also get a nice little discount once we start production!

I wish I had the warrior printed so I could show you guys how it looks printed by each machine -- I'll try to have it posted by early next week.
