Creating a hunter.

Post » Thu Oct 04, 2012 2:27 am

I have been out of the skyrim loop for a bit, took a break but now I'd like to come back with a fresh character. So here's what I'd like to do.

I'd like to create a hunter. At first I will just be roaming around trying to get my first couple kills to survive after escaping helgen. I won't be fast traveling or using any carriages. I'm not going to be a bad character but I wouldn't call myself good. first I'll just be hunting then that will lead into wanting to explore some dungeones and caves for extra loot. And once I really Polish my skills I might take out some bounty jobs.

I'm working on the build but I'm unsure of what race I'd like to be..

I'm thinking nord, wood elf. or maybe something different. I don't want to be a khajiit. I'm going to go right into stealth and bow perks.

The only thing holding me back from the wood elf is I just don't really see him as a hunter type character. And the only thing I don't like about the nord is his racial bonuses don't mesh with what I want. But his looks and everything else do. Any suggestions or ideas for me in general?

wood elf or khajit is the best choice for a hunter, but race doesnt have a big impact like it did in previous games, nords a good choice because its starts with 20 smithing skill so you can make steel arrows right at the start of the game, start the dark brother quest early to get some good armour.

If you on OC, you may want to try this.

It is great for hunters.

I'm on ps3 but that does look awesome. I won't be doing any major quest lines for armor. I just want to stick to myself and do my own thing. although storm cloaks is tempting. As I am leaning towards nord.

Go Breton, because Bretons are best at everything and look good while doing it. Plus, the magic resistance can be surprisingly useful.

Race is not so important as is how you play.
Invest in sneaking, because you're stalking your prey.
Invest in archery, because it's easier to take them down from a distance.
Hide armor, if your want. Or leather. Something woodsy.
Sell pelts in town for scratch, keep the meat.

Wood elf. Level on ONLY sneak and archery until you get to at least 40 sneak (Deadly Aim Perk) and I think it is 50 archery (Power shot). I reckon you can get to that by about Level 8 or 9. After that Alchemy or Smithing/Enchanting are a good path. Alchemy seems a bit less 'believable' for a hunter, as does Enchanting.

I love playing a 'hunter' who dabbles in bounty hunting and giant stalking.

At high levels of sneak and archery you can kill a giant with only a couple shots, and that is even with mediocre gear and no poisons or magic.

I just don't see a wood elf as a hunter type.. and any suggestions on a house? I'd love a cheap small little shack but I don't think anything like that is available

I would say Wood Elves are natural hunters if you look at their culture.
As for a shack...Hearthfire. Wait...PS3...Damn. Well, there ARE those shacks out in the wilderness...

Alchemist's shack SW of Ivarstead? Good hunting area and there is one safe storage inside.

If you're hunter will later get into the treasure hunting business like mine, pick an Argonian. Lotsa fun to be had.

I've heard argonians are fun, but I don't have any motive to try one. If I were to move into a abandoned shack, will I be able to store my things there?

I'd go with an Orc. Berserker rage affects bow AND arrow damage and is great for those 'true shot' moments.
