Creation Kit Issues - Please Advise!

Post » Tue Jun 19, 2012 6:40 pm

Just downloaded the Creation Kit, and was wondering how to create an enchantment ( e.g. for boots ) that would enhance your character's movement/sprint speed.

With Oblivion's TES Construction Set, it was a simple matter of placing a "Fortify Attribute-Speed" effect on the desired item, but this effect is no longer used , and I can't seem to locate its equivalent. The closest I was able to find was something called "WispSpeedBuff", which I attempted to place on a set of boots, but that produced no discernable effect in game.

Just out of curiosity, I tried editing the fMoveSprintMult in the Game Settings menu, but this produced no discernable effect either.

The other, unrelated issue I'm having is with the Face Anim Preview window of the Actor editor. Basically, I can't preview the face of any character I might want to edit, because the preview window is "permanently minimized", and no matter how much I try to left-click/drag the thing, it won't budge. Here's an image of it:

You can see a "sliver" of the grey-colored preview window on the far right-hand side, you just can't do anything with it. Hope someone can advise. Thanks in advance.

Try disabling themes & compositioning for the editor (CreationKit.exe Properties > Compatibility tab).

Thanks for your response shadeMe. I tried your suggestion, but unfortunately it didn't seem to help with regards to the preview window. Any other suggestions?

Actually the window just can't be viewed in it's entirety. Normally you can right-click/drag on corners to minimize/maximize windows, but not with the Actor/Face Morph editor ( or whatever its called ).

Did you also try setting the compatibility mode to 'Windows XP SP3'?

Actually, I'm running the game in Windows XP. Sorry, maybe should have mentioned that earlier.....

Interesting, maybe we should report this issue to the developers?

To make a movement speed enchant you would need to create a magic effect with a value modifier archetype and change the speedmult value. Then u would need to make an enchant that uses that magic effect and then put it on the item or w/e u wanted to do with it

Thanks for your response Xtynct. I've perused the Creation Kit's magic effects list, and so far I haven't found any effects that deal with movement speed/sprinting ( at least none that I recognized ). If you're suggesting that I create an entirely new effect from scratch ( I'm assuming that involves heavy amounts of scripting ), I'm not really sure how to do that, as I have little to no experience with scripting.

Sorry, I just noticed this, I'm suggesting you make a new magic effect, a lot of spell types are built into the game engine, if you make a new magic effect, you can select for its archetype 'value modifier', which modifies an actor value. 'Speedmult' is the modifier that governs the speed that an actor moves at, by default it is 100.

Is somebody trying to make the boots of blinding speed? If so, my favourite item in Morrowind.

Someone on this forum was asking for help making some Seven League Boots a week or so ago, I helped him out and I think he got them working. I also made myself some for fun :P

I still remember my reaction when I used those the first time. Wow...

I believe I've got it now. Thanks again, Xtynct. For those who might be interested, here's what I did per Xtynct's suggestion:

1. In the Creation Kit's Object Window, go to Magic > Magic Effect, and click on Magic Effect. This will bring up the "library" of default magic effects the game uses.

2. In my case, I simply right-clicked on "EnchFortifyStaminaConstantSelf", changed the ID to "EnchFortifySpeedConstantSelf", the Name to Fortify Speed, and the Assoc. Item 1 to SpeedMult, then saved it under a new ID ( EnchFortifySpeedConstantSelf ).

3. Next, go to Magic > Enchantment, and create a new enchantment, or simply edit an existing one as outlined in step 2. The EnchFortifySpeedConstantSelf effect should be available in the Effect pulldown list of the Effect Item window.

4. Apply your "new" enchantment to whatever item you wish.
