Credit for the things Crysis 2 does right

Post » Sat Sep 11, 2010 6:00 pm

While I do indeed agree, that the PC version of Crysis 2 suffer from going multi platform, I still think there are a number of things done right here; especially when you compare to the majority of FPS's released these recent years. (yes I did play Crysis 1 & Warhead)

I think we need a thread to discuss the things that Crysis 2 does right :)

1. The length of Singleplayer - This game is much longer than your average shooter.

2. Nanosuit - Just great :)

3. Single player gameplay - haven't had this much fun in Single player since HL2.

4. Story - Personally I find the story much better than most recent shooters.

5. The ability to take on all situations differently in Single player (run & gun or stealth).

6. Nanosuit - I really like it :)

7. Graphics - While it could have been the new enthusiast benchmark tool, had it been PC exclusive, this is not your average CoD (id tech 4) Graphics.

8. Sound - Great sound effects - Great music - Great voice over.

9. Multiplayer - While it is not on par with BFBC2 - it is a hole lot better than your average CoD or CoD clone. Crysis 2 is in fact my new casual multiplayer game.

10. Nanosuit - damn cool :)

long story? some people in these forums have beaten it in just over 5hours. not to mention i beat it on the hardest setting in 7 hours, and that was goofing around half the game.

Hm... what they did right?

Sound in general is really well made.
AI can be great IF it doesn't behave like an idiot - which is most of the times.
Multilayer is cool IF someone doesn't shoot you in the back right after spawn due to too small map size, AND there are no cheaters/pirates/server issues/you forget about Crysis 1 multiplayer.
Nanosuit has some nice gimmicks in it, THOUGH it's bit frustrating that it feels weaker comparing to previous iteration.
Few moments in single player were good (these with Cell soldiers, Tank-aliens somehow weren't fun for me at all. More like... silly.)

Besides that I can't figure out anything much.

I like several aspects of the game. I'll quickly mention a few:

- The basic parkour you can do (climbing up objects)
- New way to use leaning (shame it's not in multiplayer though)
- Air Stomp
- The way you hit the ground if you jump/fall from a large height (cool animation)
- The suit voice still sounds cool (like Crysis 1, but in a different way)
- Music is better compared to the original Crysis (in my opinion)
- I like the gun variety

There's many others, but I think I'll stop there. It may seem like I bash Crytek at times (such as the way they handle things for example), but I still consider myself a fan of things they have created (such as the nanosuit concept).

What done right in Crysis 2... hmm... let me think...

*thinking*

*thinking*

I can't think of a single thing...

Everything is very mediocre, from the graphics to the music, the story and gameplay. At best it's an OK game...

I was blown away by Crysis 1... this has been a big "meh" fest. Maybe that's the problem. Maybe I would've loved this had I not played the original... who knows.

thumbs up for:
-Multiplayer map design: various scenarios, no long sniper corridors (compared to failfront) except lighthouse but 1 map is ok / mostly emphasized on assault rifle play which i really apreciate!!

-weapons: nice designs and weapon mods e.g. hologram to fool enemies or the gauss slug

-gamemodes: classic modes like TIA, capture the flag/relay and Crashsite which is obviously "headquarters" from CoD - always fun. assault is a nice and thrilling gamemode and extraction with the bonus for team holding the bio-tick

-nanosuit: gives you the sneaky or tanky possibility to approach the enemy

all in all: i like the GAMEPLAY of the multiplayer compared to other shooters (e.g. "fail ops" and "failfront") despite the minor technical issues i experience ( for some they are major, i know ). But i can enjoy the game because i know that the technical issues can be fixed with patches. But try to patch gameplay - good luck...

- linear gameplay in BOTH multiplayer and singleplayer
- small multiplayer maps to give the illusion of intensity
- 16 MAX players in multiplayer therefore less lag for everyone, even though other games support 32 player battles with no problems
- over simplified suit functions so noobs can now understand and utilise it
- twitch style multiplayer shooter

Bravo Crytek! this game is obviously an improvement over call of duty! you'll make alot of money, but the game is not better than battlefied 2 or Crysis 1 for that matter. I hope you read this Crytek.

Well i havn't been able to play multiplayer besides the beta yet but I completed the single player on normal in 5 hours 17 minutes and I **** around and died A LOT. had i not died could probably have done it in 4 hours. Its supposed to be at minimum an 8 hour game according to reviews. What a load of ****.

FAILURE at supporting game. Rushed out game probably not cryteks fault but still.

random memory leaks

Completely retarded AI

another game that hates dual screen setups!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Then again I havn't played a good PC game since cod4.

So far all these games have been full of bugs and glitches that the devs don't care about because we have console money so **** off PC gamers.

What a joke.

ALSO WTF HAPPENED TO NOMAD AND PSYCHO WTF DID THEY DO TO THE STORY SERIOUSLY. Why was it called crysis 2 there was no link besides the suit.

**** joke of a game

As a part sound designer, I would say the sound is excellent, not as intense as bc2, but honestly not much less. Music score is fantastic, voice acting was good. Is a shame guns dont respond too much to enviromental conditions like bc2, or consider range as well, but none the less very well designed sound when compared to other products over the last year or so.

Even though the graphics are I feel dumbed down with filters over them, mainly for console purposes, they still stand strong and look great.

Even though I miss strength and run speed modes, The way the suit is set up now, really does give a more fluid performance in SP and MP.

And as also previously said, well done Crytek on making the SP campaign so long, I honsetly got to a certain part and thought "here we go, bet it ends here", next day I am still playing, brilliant.

I'd love to add something to this that they've done right.

But I can't come up with anything. Not a single thing. Might be easier if I was able to actually PLAY the damned game. But no I get to see this.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=40z5CUUvxsc

so so far they have done nothing right that I was able to see.

3. Single player gameplay - haven't had this much fun in Single player since HL2.

Sure, but don't push dirt on CoD if you found C2 so much fun. Compare it to C1 or farcry and see that it's more CoD gameplay than Crytek's original, if it's better or worse is an opinion, but the fact is FarCry and C1 had it's own style. C2 Doesn't.

5. The ability to take on all situations differently in Single player (run & gun or stealth).

Good thing you didn't play farcry or C1 before C2. You can see the effect in here, from old customers who expected similar quality.

Sound in this game is awesome. This is one of those games I would suggest getting a good set of speakers for. It really makes a difference.
Gameplay is refined from crysis one and I like the nanosuits custom options. Just a shame there isnt more of them.

Textures, yes some of the textures even though they are lower res than crysis one are stunning for there size.
