[ReqIdea] Crime & Punishment

Post » Thu May 17, 2012 2:57 am

The moment I stepped up to that chopping block in Helgen I had high hopes for skyrim's crime system, but then I was sorely disappointed when I found out it was just the same run-of-the-mill experience as morrowind and oblivion's. Wouldn't it be pretty interesting to see some brutal criminal justice in skyrim on the players part? Here's 2 ideas for beefed up punishments I have, let me know what you all think and feel free to post your own suggestions. Maybe someone will like this idea and make a mod of it.

1. Resisting arrest doesn't end in death by guards. On death or after yielding the player falls to their knees like essential npc's do, then you are automatically taken in to custody by guards. You are then put in jail for whatever crimes you commited, also serving a longer sentence for resisting arrest on top of that.
2. Things like mass murder, being identified as a werewolf, etc. all result in the player being jailed and subsequently executed at a chopping block. It would also be cool if this resulted in no longer being ambushed and brutally killed by guards for having a high bounty, they would simply pound you into submission then arrest you by force.

No more murdering 100's of people then just buying your way out of it. Incentive for not [censored] around. Incentive for covering your tracks. That last witness has to go.

I always wished there were random encounters of people doing some sort of crime, like pickpocketing, or murdering, and you could have the chance to kill or arrest them...Sort of like taking the law into your own hands, or you could be employed by the city as some sort of "Police Officer" but are a higher rank than the guards themselves...

OR and I think this would be awsome too, create a job sorta like chopping wood, only you are the headsman, and you get paid per head you hack off! That would be cool, lol

In that case, killing witnesses would have to work right. No more killing 10 guards in the middle of nowhere and still having a bounty for it.

Yeah that has been bugging me as well. Whoever you attack should have to go back to their hold/keep (whiterun, solitude etc.) to alert a guard before you get a bounty, that would be a lot more realistic.

Realistic... Implying i've slaughtered guards outside of said towns and acquired a phantom bounty IRL.

This is kind of related, but I've had this idea for a while. I've been thinking of making an anti-PC bounty hunter system. Basically, if you get a bounty somewhere, and it's high enough, it'll go on the bounty board for that area. Then it will be assigned to an NPC based on your crime/level. The NPC will then be spawned somewhere (probably an adjacent grid I guess) and have a package to go out and kill you.

They did this in Fallout games, like in New Vegas, if you had bad rep with the NCR they would send 3 to 4 people after you to kill you. It makes it more fun

Hah, I never did anything like that in FNV so never saw that :P That's a good idea. I think I'd do it so that it scales up as you go with the bounty/level, so eventually it will send different and more deadly combinations of stuff at you. Like perhaps, 2h guy 2x, mage 1x, and if you're high enough, a draugr deathlord is the mage's thrall or something.

FYI something like this is in the game:
Spoiler
A nord approached me and gave me an axe, told me I should keep on to it for now, but that he'd be back for it soon. Thereafter he warned me not to rat him out to anyone or he would kill me. WTF? 5 mins later some other guy comes up to me and asks me if I had seen someone running with his axe

I killed the thief afterwards :P

Yeah, in FNV they would scale to your lvl, if you were low lvl they would come after you with guns like the Varmint Rifle, but if you were high up there, theyd send dudes with brush guns to cap yo azz..lol. Even the Legion would send people after you if you pissed them off so im surprised it never happened to you.

But yeah, that would be awsome.

Ha, the only thing I have had remotely like a random encounter was seeing people walking the roads and me killing them...lol but I dont think thats very random I think they are always there, just walkin around...lol
