Critical mass for taking a Scroll or crowning an Emperor?

Post » Fri Nov 15, 2013 3:20 pm

Here's something I've been wondering about for a while.

If the other alliances don't send anyone to defend how many groups would it take to siege a scroll keep or crown an emperor? Maybe it's not a fair question with respect to crowning an emperor as this is supposed to be the final achievement of a multi-day campaign (or has this changed since I checked in last?).

So how many groups of max level chars will be required to take a scroll keep? This should be doable in a few hours. Will it take 4 groups of 4? Or can a well organized team do it with less?

Thoughts?

That is a good question but one we won't really know the answer to until we get to play the game. If it is to easy it gets boring real fast, that's why I hope its very difficult but seeing as how game developers now seem to think everything needs to be as easy as possible because they don't want to discourage anyone from playing their game, I think it is far more likely that you will be able to grab a scroll with little to no effort at all and I really do hope I am wrong about that.

Just the other day Cryptic Entertainment launched Season 8 for Star Trek Online. It puts the Federation, the Klingons, and the Romulan's against an enemy seen in one Voyager episode known as the Voth. They made the Voth, who are supposedly about 65 million years ahead of the rest of the galaxy in technology, way to easy to defeat and in beta when testers told them the Voth were too easy Cryptic said they designed them for a fresh level capped player with no reputation rewards to be a challenge to them, though 90% of their player base are full rep players and can steam roll the Voth solo.

This shows you that developers in general are so afraid of making anything challenging because they want everyone to be able to succeed and they never seem to realize that this makes their game boring to say the least.

Theyre designed for 15+ player and yep I use devs exactly word. Theres NPC what takes ages to kill if you're alone but alot faster if theres 15 dudes.

15? Where ever did that number come from? I though group sizes were 4? Wouldn't that mean the critical mass for a scroll raiding party would be some multiple of 4?

15? Odd.

So what is the point of the 200 players on screen at the same time design then? Because if you only need 15 there won't be anyone who gets more then that together for an Elder Scroll raid, ever.

It was one of the very first interviews with that Brian dude. But take a look at that QuakeCon gameplay video, those keeps aint so big. 15 sounds good number for that size of guild keep. Sorry it wasnt QuakeCon it was that "gameplay Trailer"

I'm just wondering what the critical mass will be for the very first scroll raids and possibly for plans on doing any ninja scroll raids.

At some point the opposing alliances are going to get enough max level players to mount serious opposition. And that's when it will be the most fun but for anyone itching to be the first 50++ (or whatever max level will be required for optimal PVP play) I'm wondering how many friends they'll need to pull together to take the first stab at taking a scroll.

Toss us a link?

I still say 15 is an odd number required to do anything if the base group size is 4.

That's cool. I'm guessing the press event you are trying to recollect is a few years old at least? And, given that the group size hadn't been set at the time (maybe they were originally considering 5 man groups?), 15 would have made sense.

My guess is that 12-16 would be around the range for critical mass. 3 to 4 full groups ought to do the trick I'm betting.

They originally had 5 classes so that might make sense.

I might not be the first to 50 in my version of the mega server...but I sure would like to be in the first raid party that takes a scroll. Not sure how I feel about being in the first raid that crowns an emperor simply because I think it will be a huge undertaking. It doesn't seem like it will have the same level of intimate camaraderie as taking a scroll with the same bunch of peeps I capped with.
