Critique my stealth build

Post » Mon May 14, 2012 8:20 am

Hello community. I'm very excited for the new ES game, been playing since Morrowind! Playing fallout and fallout:nv got me pretty interested in playing a stealth class in a TES game (was always a mage or a 2h axe wielding orc of death). Been reading up on the perks and class stats. As a forewarning to everyone wondering I took Enchanting over Alchemy, I've never been partial to picking plants. Additionally, I feel that Enchanting will increase my overall damage more so then poisons, and I can use it to boost other skills. Lets begin!

Khajiit (Light Armor and Dual wielding daggers)

One Handed (8):
-Armsman (5/5)
-Dual Flurry (2/2)
-Dual Savagery

Sneak (9):
-Stealth (5/5)
-Muffled Movement
-Deadly Aim
-Assassins Blade
-Shadow Warrior

Lockingpicking (7):
-Novice Locks
-Apprentice Locks
-Adept Locks
-Expert Locks
-Quicks Hands
-Wax Key
-Unbreakable

Pickpocket (8):
-Light Fingers (5/5)
-Key Master
-Misdirection
-Perfect Touch

Archery (8):
-Overdraw (5/5)
-Critical Shot (3/3)

Enchanting (10)
-Enchanter (5/5)
-Fire Enchanter
-Frost Enchanter
-Insightful Enchanter
-Soul Siphon
-Extra Effect

My goal of this 'spec' was to create a character that would never be limited to any area of the game, do anything and get away with it. On top of that, since daggers will more then likely be less powerful than other 1h and 2h weapons, I felt that two of them with dual enchants on each would be pretty intense. Please comment! :tes:

I dont think anyone can really give you a great critique since we haven't played the game. We dont know what all the perks do (or maybe we do, you probably do otherwise how would you know which ones o choose), and we havent found out all the good combinations.

All I can say is that I think from an RP perpective, a sneaky thief type character might not have that much knowledge of Enchanting. But of course from an RP perspective a sneaky character could easily have such knowledge. Just my two cents. It would really depend what you defined a Stealth Class as.

That's pretty, pretty, Pretty good. But what if things go wrong and you need a back up plan? some illusion magic or invisibility potions could be your friend.

Or a well-place destruction-rune

It's nice to see a fellow dual-daggerer around here. My build is similar, but much narrower. I don't like leaving perk trees incomplete, so I intend to shove all of my perks into light armor, one-handed, sneak and speech. Your build is better than mine. However, if armsman doesn't boost dagger damage, and there are some mixed facts about that, you may only need to invest a single point into it. That would free up four perks for you. At the moment, nobody really knows whether or not armsman boosts dagger damage.

I'm hoping Armsman does bolsters damage to daggers, they are 1h weapons after all! If not.. a few perks in speech would be very useful.

Thanks! And as far as back up plan?...I guess I'll just turn into a werewolf. Or, run away until I'm far enough away to use the Shadow Warrior perk

I really can't wait to try it out in game lol. Wonder how many hours it'll be before I get to the 50th perk

I hope that it does as well. I originally thought that it would, but then people started posting descriptions that said it didn't. Then people started posting descriptions that said nothing about daggers at all. It's confusing. As for speech, I wanted to be a rogue-assassin. I just didn't have enough perks to max out every rogue tree, due to my problems, so I went with speech. It not only lets you make more money, which is the goal of every rogue, but you can sell items to any vendor and even add new fences to the game by investing in their shops. I mainly wanted it for the persuasion and intimidate boosts, though, as I want my assassin to be able to manipulate people.

What race do you play as rogue?

I think it's pretty good, im going to make a very similar character but maybe with Alchemy instead of Enchanting, i just have to decide once the game is out. Never used custom powered poisons and potions in previous games so im gonna give it a try.

I was going to play through as an Argonian regardless, but they start with +10 to lockpick and +5 to sneak, light armor and pickpocket. Not a bad boost to start the game. Anyway, I was looking over your build and I think you're one lockpicking perk short. You have unbreakable on your list, but not locksmith, yet you need locksmith in order to get unbreakable. As I've said, sneaky characters have it hard. Too many good perks but not enough points to go around.

Nice catch, I completely missed that.

I've never invested in any shop in any Bethesda game, actually. Am i understanding this correctly; once you invest in their shop, they will buy your stolen items? or...

Yeah. It lets you sell stolen goods to stores that you have invested in. I'm sure there will be plenty of fences in the game, and by the time you're a high enough level to get that perk, you'll probably know where those fences are. However, it can still be helpful. It's all a matter of personal preference. My character isn't going to be anywhere near as good as yours when it comes to infiltration, as you'll be to pick any lock. If there are locks that are still too tough for you, you'll probably be able to steal a key. I like how you decided to approach that. My character will be damn good at selling things, but I'll have a harder time actually getting inside places to steal stuff.

Nice, i'll have to play around with the speech skill on a 2nd playthrough... Depending on the status of the Armsman perk.

It seems we differ in basic theories that ultimately accomplish the same goal: I rather break in and steal something I can't afford, you rather buy it outright :P

One question. You'll be using light armor, but opted not to invest any perks in it. Why? That's a bold move, and one that I would follow if I had more ambition, but I figured it was the "safe" bet. Besides, the perk that prevents the armor from slowing you down fit my style of being as mobile as possible. If I didn't get light armor, it would clear up ten perks, which would let me get lockpicking or pickpocket.

Well, other then it being impossible, it looks okay.

Review the tree's your using, and make sure you have the pre-req perks.
