A classic!
Yeah, I downloaded the mod but couldn't get it working. I'm totally inept at computer games, but I followed the instructions to the letter, and nothing. Zilch. Zip. Zebra.

I too must try again soon.

I bought the game last week. I started my first game playing as a count in Ireland. I united most of it except for the 4 northern regions, which were under the control of Scotland who somehow managed to take over all of England within about 50 years, probably a marriage. I took a couple of regions in the Wales, who were still independent from Scotland at the time.

Now what happened next was dumb luck that turned into a curse. I married my legitimized bastard Queen to the dukes son of some other place (i wasn't paying attention to where at the time) because there were no other princes willing to marry her. After we had a son, I then decided to start a plot to assassinate my husband, partially because nothing was really happening, because I wanted to try out more of the games intrigue, and because i think that BASTARD WAS HAVING AN AFFAIR! After that mess was successfully over with i noticed i suddenly owned the Kingdom of Brittany, and my son owned Normandy and owned 2 duke titles to the southeast of France. Well now, with a long list of titles my heir had and would soon acquire, I couldn't wait for my queen to drop dead! Turns out I didn't have to wait very long, and the new King inherited quite the amount of land.....aaaaand things went downhill from there.

France then got me excommunicated by the pope, which made my already angry vassals from the recent succession even angrier and i soon had a civil war. Then France declared war on me in order to take Normandy which they had de jure rights to. Then it turns out Scotland had a couple of claimants for my lands in Ireland and didn't waste the opportunity of my weakened state. Things didn't last very long then, but at least i ended my first game with a seemingly decent score of around 20,000

That's why I love this game!

I started out as the count of Connacht. I managed to become king and conquer the [censored] out of Ireland. Took one county of Wales, but my bastard son-in-law King of England pushed some claims and went to war with me for it. [censored] that, I gave up when I saw he raised nearly 20000 in a second (what the scale is I don't know, but I had only about 7000). Then I took over the Kingdom of Brittany and yeah.

How did you manage to take England!?

I didn't. Scotland took England somehow. Brittany (I think i'm spelling it wrong) is a kingdom on the northwest tip of Europe mainland. It only consists of 4 or 5 counties i think.

On another game I played as Nevarra (I think its spelled, its around Leon and Aragon). As of now its a waiting game, but one that might get good soon. Years ago I betrothed my princess who was about 7 to one of my neighbor's princes, who was 4 and the heir of the Kingdom, on my western border. Surprisingly they weren't cousins or whatever seeing as how all the Catholic nations there are related! The idiot King even agreed that all children would be of MY dynasty! Our children then grew old enough to marry, and about a year later my King died, meaning my daughter became Queen. They then had about 3 children, securing my ultimate plan of one of them inheriting both our Kingdoms.

Unfortunately my Queen died of illness when she was about 22 years old, which is a shame because she had really good stats. So now I took control of our oldest daughter who is about 5. Her dad, who is now in control of the western nation( I wish i could remember his Kingdoms name) then went on to call holy wars on our Muslim neighbors, and with my help and some of Frances and the Holy Roman Empires, he managed to expand his borders considerably. Which would of course soon be mine once daddy dearest kicks the bucket.

However there is only one other catholic nation left in the Spanish peninsula (can't remember it's actual name), the rest were destroyed by the Muslim nations through holy wars. My characters dad's Kingdom then had 3 of his counties taken in a holy war before a cease fire was called, but it's only a matter of time before another war starts. I don't think that as 2 separate Kingdoms we will be able to survive so i think it's time to.....speed up dads retirement plans. I'm in good standings with the Pope so hopefully he will send money my way for mercenaries once the time comes, and i'll try to get him to call nvasions on my enemies. My armies may not be enough, so let's see how they like the force of ALL of Christendom's armies!

I played a lot at release, which is saying something about a Paradox release, and loved it. I have had a hard time getting back into it though.

Fantastic game. Got it in the Paradox sale a few weeks back, played it when I should have been studying for my exams. But, like sbr32, I haven't really played since a new version of the D&T mod (for EU3) came out. It's just so much harder to do anything in CK2 than in EU3 that I find myself choosing to play EU3 all the time. It is a lot of fun though, once you get into the flow of the game.

In my last game I was playing a Hungarian count, he married a princess when he came of age, but had another woman that he loved. They were both fortune makers and fertile, so in no time I'd gotten a bunch of little bastards. The real countess, of course, got all pissy when I legitimized them, things got so bad that I had to imprison her. She died in prison. Very sad, because she was a really nice person, according to her traits. Just luckless in love. My count then married his mistress and went on to have six or seven kids, who were married to heirs of various counties and duchies. So now my count (now Duke) presides over a large extended family, who just can't get along (I'm pretty sure that one of the sons assassinated his half-brother). Very daytime soap stuff.

For the people who had trouble with the GoT mod, all you need to do is put the mod files + movie clip file into the mod folder, so you've got the folder that says "A Game of Thrones" and the movie clip file. Nothing else, and you should be good to go. :)

Speaking of my own experiences with the mod, I've been playing as Robert in the rebellion, of which my plan was 'run away from the Tyrells until I can link up with Jon Arryn/Hoster Tully/Ned Stark', then kick the [censored] out of Aerys in the Crownlands. In this mod, Lyanna survived, and wed Robert, of which we had 4 children, the awfully named Myles Baratheon and three daughters. Cersei married Hoster Tully for reasons beyond me, outliving her brothers and Tywin. Jon Arryn wasn't killed but instead died much earlier on, leaving behind a bloody competant if slightly fat heir, rather than a sickly incompetant one. Stannis became Lord of Storm's End rather than Renly due to me being totally meta, while Renly became one of the greatest generals in the 7 Kingdoms.

But what of the valiant Prince Rhaegar you ask? Slain nobly on the field of battle like Jason Mallister? Stealing away on Dragonstone to swear revenge and lead an invasion to reclaim his throne? Nope, he ended up in the service of some minor Vale Lord on the Sisters and got syphillis. I think Robert is probably happier with that ending.
