We've experienced a huge amount of activity on the site since the 360 Test email was sent out. There has been a fair amount of confusion as to what the details are behind this test so this thread is aimed to answer your questions and serve as a general discussion topic on the 360 Test.
General
- This is not a Beta. This is a pre-alpha build Test to measure server loads/performance on the 360.
What is the purpose or goal of this multiplayer test?
The Crysis 2 multiplayer test was created for development reasons, to help with server load testing and to gather early gameplay feedback from shooter fans. It has not been created to act as a demo or preview. - How is this multiplayer test different than a beta?
This test differs from a beta in many important ways. First and foremost, a beta is generally feature-completed. Our test is being conducted very early in our development schedule, and as such many features have not yet been implemented. Additionally, Crysis 2’s multiplayer will be polished increasingly more as development continues, so you may experience bugs, imbalance issues, or other quirks that would have already been fixed if this was a beta. This test is also very small-scale. - Why isn’t the ‘beta’ on PC/PS3?!!!
CryEngine 3 allows us to develop Crysis 2 similarly on all three of our platforms – PC, PS3 and Xbox 360. While we’re marching ahead quickly on all three platforms, at this time we’re just testing the Xbox 360 game architecture. - How can I participate in this Crysis 2 multiplayer test?
Participants have already been chosen amongst our community members. Our test is development focused and very small-scale, making it quite unlike the full-scale beta that many games have recently run. Because of this we are unable to offer additional opportunities to participate, although we certainly appreciate your enthusiasm and interest! - How were the actual participants (The ones who received keys) chosen? Was it forum activity? Was it random?
First come first serve, this was stated previously on the forums and in the comments of the news post we put up. - How many are participating?
It's a small test, more than the previously stated "900 people" but we're not going into exact figures. We know how many people we need to meet our test needs and we've invited enough people for that. - I've been an active member of the community since forever and i wasn't invited? Why not?
As it's been mentioned on multiple occasions, this test is very small-scale and unfortunately there just wasn't enough room for everyone. This forum alone has a large number of registered user accounts, so based on this there was no way to invite everyone. If you feel hard done by or not appreciated then please don't take it personally as Crytek love and appreciate all their fans but as this test needed to be run in a precise manner it's unfortunate that only a limited amount of people could join in.
Email / Keys
- Two mails have been sent out for this tech test.
The first mail was to gauge interest in the gamesas community and find out how many people would be able to assist us with this test. If you read the mail you will see that at no point did it say you will be able to play, we merely wanted to find out who owned an Xbox 360 and would be willing to help us test.
The second mail sent out was the official invite, this mail contained a code to take part. If you have not received this mail then you were not selected for the test. - Will more keys be handed out? Surely 'X' amount isn't enough!?
We're well aware of how to run a test, and a lot more than 900 keys were sent out to gamesas aloneI cannot provide full details on the test but in a general sense the scale is quite 'small' as I have mentioned before.
To answer the original question, no, no more keys are being sent out for the technical test of Crysis 2 MP on Xbox 360. - I am a member on gamesas but didn’t get an email, how can I apply?
At this point we are not longer accepting additional multiplayer test participants. Stay tuned for other exciting updates! - Why did some people not even receive the first set of invites (The ones to "gauge interest")? Or was that just the fault of spam filters?
That will be the fault of spam filters or people signing up after they were sent. Some mail providers block mass mail all together. - There will not be another wave of invites sent out for this Test.
- There will not be any more keys sent out for this Test.
- If you haven't received the second email by now (check your junk filter) then unfortunately you won't be able to participate in this test.
- If you signed up for the test but when you arrived to the site you were greeted with a message saying "Your application has already been submitted" it is likely that you've just double-clicked the link and it has been submitted twice. This will not have effected your chance of participating.
Feedback
- As you should be aware, this is a Closed Test and as such, sharing information and/or media from the Test will breach the NDA (Non-disclosure Agreement) you agreed to when you received your key and installed the game. Breaches of this NDA will result in removal of content and likely your access to these forums.
- If you received your key from gamesas or EA's GunClub, you should have received an invite to a private feedback forum. If you received your key via other means (CombatTesters, for example) then it will probably show that you are unauthorised to view the private forum. If this is the case then please send your feedback via email to community [at] crytek [dot] com where it can be collected and passed on to the relevant departments.
Future
- Will there be a full beta for Crysis 2 at a later time?
We currently do not have plans for a large-scale multiplayer beta, but as development of Crysis 2 continues we may evaluate the option at a later point. We will be certain to keep you informed on gamesas.com. - Will you provide more details regarding the content that the testers got to play?
We will be discussing our multiplayer more in the future (keep an eye on gamesas.com!), but at the moment we aren’t releasing any new details. In fact, the levels, modes, and weapons that testers had a chance to play have already been shown at Gamescom and other events, so you aren’t missing out on any cool unseen features!
We hope this irons out some of the confusion for you guys and by all means, please continue to ask questions in this thread and the OP will be updated accordingly. It's a rather long-winded FAQ but we wanted to ensure we answered as many questions as possible for you guys. With this in mind, please ensure you read the entire FAQ before posting any questions as to not clutter the thread with duplicate questions/answers.
Cheers!
