Crysis vs. Crysis 2 - Gameplay Comparison

Post » Mon Sep 13, 2010 11:26 am

I've heard all kinds of complaints about Crysis 2, why it svcks so much compared to first Crysis. Well I listed all of the complaints from different forums and added in the video.

Do you agree Crytek's gameplay decisions?
I don't. I'd rather have a sequel that has all of the features from the first game and adding even more. Prone is missing I know, but who prones in urban combat anyway?

Yes I use Crysis Warhead, because I lost my Crysis CD. They're still the same game anyways.
(Please excuse my crap English)

The initial instalment was NOTHING more than a benchmark and was boring as hell for me, the entire game was so easy, the multiplayer had a clunky feel to it.

Crysis 2 however, feels like an entirely new game, the story was intersting, everything felt fluid in way it handled.

Crysis 2 one of my favourite games, just need cheaters to be countered in Mutli.

Both Crysis games are ridiculously easy. Tranquilizer ammo is OP in Crysis and Armor Mode is OP in Crysis 2(As you see in the Crysis 2 Gameplay video).

There's the problem. Some folks who enjoyed the first game want the same, but more. Lots of people like myself don't like entirely new game feel in sequels.

Yeah I can totally see this and understand, sequels should be sequels, not resets.

But in this case I for one enjoyed the game's dramatic change, otherwise I would've not purchased it.

I completely agree with the OP , PErsonally I am not playingthe MP at all , its hironic because back at the time I loved Crysis 1 MP and I wanted to play on xbox but I couldn't so I just had to play on PC frustated for the cheaters...

I long waited a Crysis game on xbox now instead I get a COD clone with Halo hybrid parts... this is not what I expected and honetly everything from Crysis 1 was better rom gameplay , to even the binoculars and arrow cursors...

Crysis had very good and quick responsiveness from the mouse and keyboard. Obviously it was a PC exclusive game, hence why it responded so well.

Crysis 2, there is that 0.5 second "lag" from keyboard and mouse input. Especially the mouse when using the mouse as the armour/cloak modes.

The MP in C2 is just silly, the cheats (as stated) is out of hand. Search under my name for 3 videos including 4 cheaters in 1 day, all within an hour of game play.

They need to handle the cheaters first, those minor adjustments to keyboard and mouse (responsiveness) comes later.

Crysis Wars is also full of cheaters. Must be Crytek's curse.

The Physics in Crysis 1 were much more then superior, and what we get with Crysis 2 is a joke :(

I havent felt a lag... but I HAVE felt a control related delay around jumps and melee... it's not time to when you press the button, but when you let go.... that's how strength is now controlled. You can like or dislike that (Im not sure I like it myself), but... that's not lag.

Honestly, if I had to choose, I'd say the quality of the graphics are about the same, given a few additions and subtractions in the sequel. Crysis has better textures, physics, and water, while Crysis 2 has far better performance and (from what I can see) higher poly-counts on environmental objects, and a slight edge on the lighting. It's a shame Crytek didn't try to raise the bar to the same extent that they did with Crysis, but it's amazing that they were able to pull this off on consoles and create the best looking console game around (given competition like Killzone 3 and Uncharted 2, I'm impressed). Otherwise, the games have virtually indistinguishable visual effects.

On the other hand, the games are vastly different in other departments.

A.I.: Despite the occasional wall-svcker, I have to give this one to Crysis 2. The Koreans where nowhere near as coordinated and threatening as the Cell, and the aliens go even further.

Gameplay: Again, Crysis 2. Despite the lack of an open-world, I feel more at liberty here in terms of meat bag disposal. I feel like a real predator with rewarding prey. Also, the vehicle missions are FAR superior to those in Crysis, and overall I was never bored, which is something I can't say about Crysis. Also, unlike some, I'm very pleased with the suit modifications.

Story: No one really cares about the story, but I'd say Crysis. The shock of realizing that there was an extra-terrestrial threat in Crysis is still the best moment in the series.

Audio: Crysis 2. I mean, Hanz Zimmer is a bad-ass. And the improved sound effects were the first thing I noticed about the game. The voice-acting has also improved somewhat in spite of a few weak performances (Gould, Lockhart), which pale in comparison to others (Hargreave, Prophet).

Overall: Crysis is a mind-blowing achievement with some pretty obvious short-comings, and Crysis 2 addresses these issues while making some sacrifices. In the end, I really couldn't choose one over the other.

If it was possible to keep the crysis 2 direction and art design and gameplay but bring back the ability to not hold a weapon in your hand, prone, strength punch, speed and normal run, vehicles in multiplayer, spawning at your base instead of the COD approach and keep everything else in crysis 2 this would be a perfect game. Now what im describing probably would not be realistic for console because of the map size required when you add a Power struggle multiplayer in the mix. So we are basically asking ourselves what do we enjoy more, a PC game (Crysis) or a console game (Crysis2).

I have strong PC and Xbox 360 console and I enjoying playing both system, but I still find Crysis much better than Crysis 2. Crysis feels smoother while Crysis 2 feels very stiff.

Still my favorite moment in video game history. That whole zero gravity was awesome.

Hans Zimmer only did the Crysis 2 Main Menu music. Rest of the music was done by other composers.
