Firstly, when trying to connect to a server double clicking doesnt seem to work, I have to triple click or, single click then press join game. Kinda annoying.
Even more annoying is when the server list is refreshing I can't pause the refresh so I can join the game I want. I see the game I wanted to join but *bam* gone, the server lis keeps refreshing and I have to wait for it to settle down. On top of that, if I find a game that I want to join and since the time it was refreshed it has filled up, I can't hit a "Refresh" button. When do you ever see a game server list without a "Refresh" and "Pause Refresh" button?
There are other multiple issue I have with the interface. The menus are slightly confusing and easy to get lost in. To many menus and vague submenus and poor descriptions. They are simply overcomplicated.
Now moving onto game play...
I hate the fact that I can't hold C to crouch and stand when I release. This is a feature that any PC FPS gamer knows and needs, especialy those of us who play CS. Console gamers would be more comfortable with this because they don't want to hold Y when battling for example, but this isn't on a console.
Another problem I have is not being able to sprint and strafe or even sprint backwards. This just gives the game a very sluggish clunky feel. Especially when there are so many coveys and corners (but more on that later). I could maybe understand why you wouldn't want people strafing while sprinting because it would start to get very difficult to aim at a target, but the enemies themselves appear to move much faster than it feels you yourself are moving. When I'm running I feel like I'm an average in shape dude sprinting around, but when I see my opponents moving around they look like goddamn flash (well, its not that dramatic, but there certainly is a disperity). I would certainly sacrafice opponent perceived speed if it meant that I could at least feel like I was moving fast (while strafing or moving backwards).
Another issue with the game is spawn points. Spawning in this game is somewhat off. I don't want to spawn directly infront of someone, I don't even want someone to spawn directly infront of me; it feels very unfair. I don't want wether I get a kill, or get killed, to be determined by the way the game spawns.
My final gripe with this game would be the maps. Whatever happened to simpler is better? (Dust2 servers are still packed) I understand the need for the large size, and objects to hide behind, nice textured bushes etc. But running or moving through a building is a bit of a joke. If I can't strafe around corners quickly, then why are you making tiny areas with corners at every corner? Anything not out in the open starts to turn into retard wars and really subtracts from the enjoyability of the game. It feels random, chancy, and unsatisfying when both players are just spraying at eachothers face waiting to see who drops. Also, I can't remember the map but it illustrates my point very well earlier about movement. Theres a very long narrow hall with no where to go and if you get spotted in it- well; your dead. You can't escape anywhere, theres no cover...it's just ugly. Maps need to be open and expansive with objects for cover. One thing that is really nice about the map is the different elevations- love it.
Well thats it, I really hope someone at Crytek will read this because I'm sure I'm not the only one who feels this way and if the changes I've mentioned were implemented, this could really be a fun competitive game.
