Crysis 1 re-release for consoles

Post » Thu Nov 11, 2010 4:28 pm

Hi awesome team at Crytec

I just finished the campaign on Crysis 2 on my PS3 and I must say I was absolutely blown away. Really enjoyed the game.
I found it a little bit hard to understand when I started, but quickly picked up on the story. It has left me hungry for more and although I've started replaying it again on a different difficulty I feel like exploring new territory.

Now I know that the game (SPOILER ALERT) leaves it open for a third installment but seeing as I didn't get to play the first Crysis on the PC I was wondering if you are going to be re-releasing it for us console owners.

I'm the kind of gamer that really gets into the story and don't want to miss anything so I would absolutely love it if you were to do this!!!

It has become a bit of a trend for older games at the moment. I mean you got the God of war series, Prince of Persia series, Beyond good and Evil and due to come out soon the Tomb Raider series.

Now I'm sure I'm not the only one that has thought of this so hope to hear an answer for us fanboys out here.

Other than that thanks for giving us such a great game and keep up the awesome work

Kind regards Marco_Polo1988

Not a chance. You console wouldn't handle the game that's not a corridor limited by invisible walls 5 meters right and 5 meters left.

Well all I can say is that you shouldn't judge what you havn't tried. And you obviously havn't tried games on consoles. The PS3 is a powerful machine!!! I know PC's can do alot better. But Crytec wouldn't have released Crysis 2 for consoles if it wasn't going to be able to handle it or look any good. And there is a very long list of games that looks absolutely stunning on the PS3!

Crysis 2 may look slightly better than 1, but it's also got significantly smaller maps. I.e. less stuff to render. And the backdrops for the skybox look absolutely horrendous, you can see they're sprites, + there aren't even reflections in the game. Windows have copy+paste reflections and water doesn't really reflect anything, it just has an image pasted to it.

The only way to make C1 on consoles is fog. Lots of fog. And much lower draw distances. Gameplay really isn't much of an issue, since it had gamepad support.

@Marco_Polo1988

Nobody doubts that consoles can be pushed to their limits and still bring "good results" but Crysis 1 is designed to take full advantage of PC hardware and controls in specific. Its still the benchmark for high end Pcs and only with a GTX 580 ( which is actually more expensive than a 360 plus a PS3 !! ) you are now able to finally max Crysis out with maximum details with no "feelable" framderops. The problem is that Crysis 1 uses ( and that also gameplaywise) extreme huge draw distances and very high res textures (1024*1024 instead of 512*512 in Crysis 2) which requires a lot of memory which especially the PS3 is lacking of. Also the physics in Crysis are always "present" in the game..so if youre in a firefight with lots of explosions and collapsing houses and debries flying all over the place, you just cant guarantee a playable framerate on consoles all the time. So you would have to dumb down the game with a rediculously low LOD and low resolution and dumbed down physics to bring Crysis 1 to consoles. And that would make nobody happy..especially not those consolegamers who complain about popping objects and a low framerate in Crysis 2... Crysis 1 on CE3 would be way way way heavier.

Crysis 2 was the attempt to bring the Crysis feeling to consoles.. and because of all the cuts and New York as a setting you have the proof that Crysis 1 isnt a possible thing on current gen consoles.

The reason its not going to happen is mainly due to the draw distances. You are never going to see miles and miles of trees to the quality of Crysis on current consoles. Crysis 1s action bubbles are about 30x larger than Crysis 2s "action bubbles" and that is not an exaggeration.

Yeah I fully understand that it would not be able to look as good as it would be able to on the PC. Iv'e seen what it looks like on the PC and it does look amazing. But "dumbing" it down for the console wouldn't be an issue at least for me. I've always thought that graphics should always come second to storytelling and in this instant im fascinated with the universe that is Crysis and would love to be able to experience it on my PS3. Now it sounds like alot of people don't think that the console can handle open world games and I would like to disagree! As mentioned earlier Farcry 2 looked amazing and so did Red Dead Redemption. And Battlefield 2 looks awesome online as well!

Crysis 2 = Generic buildings, urban setting, little to no dynamic map content, optimised engine.

Crysis 1 = Huge, wide-open spaces, insane amounts of grass, loads more destructible buildings/enviorment, not a very well optimised engine.

There's no chance of getting Crysis or Crysis Warhead on a PS3 or 360, couldn't handle it.

EDIT:
Don't forget that a large part of the UI and controlls would have to be fixed, or if that's not possible then large parts of the story would have to be re-writen to make it work without the actuall Strengte, Cloak, Speed and Armour mode. It wouldn't be too hard to make it work, but the controlls would be VERY clunky and annoying.

Crysis 1 wasn't all open space, just the places where it was open were a helluva lot bigger than the open spaces in Crysis 2.

I think it could be done, in the same was as BF3 will be done. But I don't think we'll ever see it. It would take more time and money then is probably worth it considering that it won't see as many copies as Crysis 2 (which hasn't even hit 300,000 sales on PS3)

At any one point crysis 1 can have up to 4x the polygons of a scene in crysis 2. So it won't be happening. The game could definitely be ported, but it would end up looking like a ps2 game.

Still, if you want to play crysis getting a PC would be a good idea (i'm sure you'll need to replace your PC at some point anyway, build it yourself and you can build a gaming one for cheaper). The consoles will be pretty crap after this year with the shift of focus to PC by a large swathe of developers.

Also, they pretty much retcon'd crysis 1 out of existence anyway story wise.

EA said, four years ago, that bringing Crysis 1 to consoles was impossible due to hardware limitations.

Consoles got a dumbed down version of Crysis 2, which is less hardware intensive than the first game - so what makes you think consoles can handle Crysis 1?

I'm sorry, but console gamers truly seem dillusional at times.

P.S - I own an Xbox 360, PS3 and PC. I primarily game on PC.

...Not to mention all that vegetation and it's physics is vital to the gameplay itself. C2 does *not* look better than C1. Just do the comparison: which one looks like near-photorealism (there are comparisons C1 vs reality if u google) and which one looks like a blurry lensflare mess.

Consoles can probably handle Crysis 1 at Medium-High settings at 1024 x 720.

With a 50 meter draw distance maybe.

No...Crysis at Medium High and that resolution doesn't require any power at all. Runs fine on an 8600GT 256MB which is slightly weaker than console GPUs.

not worth the time and effort for crytek.

Will I didn't encounter hackers this entire morning. Maybe I got lucky? What do you want me to do? Record and hour of gameplay so you can scan it for a trace of hacking?

I mean seriously...Crysis 1 isn't that hard to run.

A 9800GT will give you High-Very High mix in DX9 at 1440 x 900 at over 30 FPS without any problems.

I ran it at the same settings on my old GT 240 (no AA + 1360 x 768)

And on the 8600GT I had 2 years ago 1024 x 768 at Medium was a breeze.

See for yourself

Its not the grfxchip dude... its the RAm... you need at least 2 GB of "normal" and 1GB for the grfx chip to run it properly.

Tbh, I don't know why you'd even want to buy Crysis for a console when there are videos of the story. I've played Crysis on PC and Crysis 2 on PC, and own it on PS3.. Crysis 2 is a better game imo. There's not as much attention to detail in the latter, but the gameplay is more dynamic and fun by far.

..Now wait for the PC whores to spend hours of their lives screaming about how I must be wrong
