Crysis wars abusive memory usage

Post » Tue Aug 31, 2010 4:30 am

Hi ! I'm having some trouble with the crysis wars client. I can't play more than 5 min because of game crashes. I've been watching the *32.exe and *64.exe and both have the issue : the process' memory usage (and the game freezes btw) increase without any limit (often crashing around 3go of memory usage). As I was playing on very high, I tried to put everything in low, but nothing has changed : goes up to ~3go then crashes. Maybe it is a memory leak ? I'm already patched on 1.5.I could play it on that computer 2 or 3 months ago without any problem, I just don't know what it is and how to fix it. :-( Thanks for your help !

Edit(s):
?I tried r_displayinfo 1 in console to compare with task manager's info : crysis display 1go more of memory usage than taskmanager (thereby crashing, following to crysis' info, at about 3700mo usage).
?I tried to watch the memory usage just after booting the game : ~280mo, doesn't grow. It's when I'm connected that it grows.
?I tried to see what would happen on a server with a small map, nobody, and a high ping : it grows just as much as if I was with noobhunters' 40 player server.
?When I try disconnecting to see if memory usage with lower, it changes nothing, memory usage continue to grow. I once got kicked for inactivity, and the memory usage began to explode ( +40 mo of memory usage per second...).
?I have MWLL mod installed. Could it be that ? As said, I already played the game on this comp a few months ago without any problem. I installed mwll today and began playing in normal mod (I still haven't been playing the mwll mod). Maybe it could have corrupted some game files ?
?I tried reinstalling the game; I still have the issue.
?The leak is also present in Crysis 1 solo and MP.

Sorry, didn't see this thread.

If the game is pulling over 3GB of RAM then it would have to be something wrong with your system as this is an anomaly that would be more widespread if it was game related and it's the first time i've heard of anything like it. I've experienced very slight memory leaks during online play, sure, but i'm talking ~50MB increase over an entire hour long round. You're mentioning 40MB per second.

At minimum i'd be formatting the system clean because it sounds like there's a serious issue with the system if it's doing that.

Ow... And is there anyway to reinstall windows without losing everything ? (I have about 700-800gb data on my HDD I really don't want to choose between them and Crysis... :-( ).
Also, should I try memtest ?

And yeah, the +40mb/s after leaving a server is for real, I thought it was a bug at first until it began lagging at 2500 and crashed a few seconds after at 3000+... :-(

Anyway what is strange is that I could play the game before normally and I have maybe 50 other recent games which work without any problem. D:

EDIT : Oh and does Crysis Wars use files from Warhead or Crysis 1 if I have maximum edition ?

What do you mean? Wars might use files from Warhead, as you need Warhead CD key to play Wars.

Because I only reinstalled Wars, so maybe I should have tried reinstalling the whole crysis + addons.

Edit:
?No error on memtest.
?Launching the app with " -dx9" makes it work. So the problem would be "Crysis dx10 abusive memory usage".

Ok, first off Wars uses NONE of the data from Warhead and will work as a standalone game.

Second, those errors I get in Dx9, it just happens sometimes.

You can reinstall windows but tell it not to wipe this disk and then you can restore data from Windows.old

Yeah, those errors are quite typical, certainly don't account for the memory leak you described.

Hello,

I have been in touch with the EA Support team up until the time my issue was upgraded to 3rd level support. Since then, nothing (it has been one week).

I could play Crysis Wars in an older version of the game (1.2 I think) without any problems. Now I have the same problems as described by Thundercast: The game starts with normal RAM Usage and then suddenly starts to go up and up and up for about 10minutes and then crashes at >90% of my 8GB RAM (sometimes even at >60%). I have tried to use only the 4GB RAM I added recently, checked the NEW RAM with Memtest86+ and Windows Memory Tester before testing Wars again: same crashes as with the 4GB I already had. The only difference with using 4GB or 8GB RAM is that I can play a few minutes longer ^^

Crysis Warhead didn't seem to have the same issue as I could play the first campaign mission for more than 40 minutes without crashing... until I tried to save the game and quit (trying to save the game made it crash just like Wars).

I tried the -DX9 switch and VOILA, the game works... which is strange because I played Wars in DX10 for HOURS when I bought it a few months ago.

I will try to get in contact with EA Support again...

EDIT: EA Chat Support forwarded my ticket to 3rd level support for the 2nd time. If you want to refer to it, my ticket number (EA Incident Reference Number) is: 110319-011199
