CRYSIS2 PC BR-ROM?

Post » Fri Jun 03, 2011 1:17 am

I was wondering if Crytek have any intention of releasing a Blue-Ray version of C2 for PC?
I'd presume the format conflicts between M$ and Sony would complicate the issue ( BR-ROM being Sony's format )
But with all the extra storage there are plenty of possibilities for bonus content, such as development footage or documentaries, interviews with Crytek staff, and all the other extras you see on an average DVD. Deleted scenes, storyboards, music, artwork etc. You can do a lot with 25GB. And a quick install too!

Personally I think it could be a good idea, especially if they are the first developer to release a PC game on a BD.
I don't think anyone else has. Could be groundbreaking...

25gb? BR? lol?

Textures on the CryEngine (1,2,3) are the compression during loading.

+ compression setup archive.

Its 10-15gb = 2 DVD or 1 dual-layer DVD.

I really cannot see games requiring Blu-ray for a long long time, and by then digital downloading would most likely become the prime method for distribution. Considering most gamers don't have a Blu-ray player in their PC, it wouldn't be very cost effective. Plus all that content you asked for belongs on a separate disc, not one that a game is on.
