Crysis2 still in Alpha fase??

Post » Mon Sep 20, 2010 2:41 am

How come the FAQ on the tech-test says Crysis 2 is still in alpha fase?
Since the game should have come out already and was only delayed for sales-reasons?

I would assume it would already be finished by now, a little tweaking and some small features being added okay, but not in alpha fase?

The build that is being used from the Test is the same build that was used at GamesCom back in August. It doesn't indicate what stage of development the game is at :)

Thanx for the clarification!
I was a little worried.
By the way, I was @ GamesCom/GDC and was very impressed with the tour and the development of the game, so keep on going.

The game is pretty much in late-alpha/really early beta stage right now. Remember that there are still 5 months left until release.

Please remember the game was due this month ;)
So it should be ready for release. So no alpha, no beta, it should be ready ;)

By the way, where is your assumption based on that it is in late alpha, early beta phase?

Their is no true way of telling that the game is in early beta or not. This build is obviously heavily outdated. It was used in August and probably wasn't even the latest then. A GUESS, given the fact that the game was due this month, would suggest the game is definitely in the beta phase. Which part? Well that's impossible to determine at this time. Realize though that just because the game was due this month, does not mean it would be done now. I mean think about it, obviously if they just got 5 extra months of development time, they're going to use that time wisely and not rush it. This delay is a good thing, means a more, well polished game. 5 months means better game and 5 months in dev time means lots of more **** getting done.

I spoke to one of the developers the other day while playing the stress test. He said the version we were playing IS from Gamescom and they have a newer build at the office that they are still improving on. I would say the version I played looked like late Alpha, early Beta. Very polished, just needs some tweaks. Does it matter whether they call it Alpha or Beta really?

And I doubt it was just delayed for money as they are clearly still working on the game.

Alpha and Beta terms at this point do not matter that extensively, except that Alpha means that some of the features have not been implemented or finished yet, while Beta means that the content is finished 100% and its on to exclusively working on quality assurance.

True to those words, man!!!

Thanx for your thoughts. I was just wondering because I talked to Avni at GamesCom and he said the game was ready, so I was suprised to see an Alpha test.
But I understand this is just for networktesting.
