Is Crytek (and with it, Crysis 2) falling apart??

Post » Thu Mar 25, 2010 2:04 pm

I think that this question is something that most fans of Crysis are worried about... Thte newsletter of Crysis 2 doesn't ever work, the 2nd episode of CrysisTV is delayed for 6 days and now the entire game is delayed for the first quarter of 2011 (which means that it could be released in March!)... Even worse, crytek's awesome team that presented us many many exciting gameplays and developer's walkthroughs, has vanished! What's wrong people? We don't want to stop hearing about your progress... WE ARE THE BEST FANS OF YOURS!

Perheaps it's EA who's screwing with us, i mean, they are knownd for screwing up games.
Crytek should pick another partner or work alone. Even if it shows up that EA is NOT guilty in this case.

Hi guys,

We have lots of things in the works for the site and the community, right now we're working hard behind the scenes on the gamesas site and you can expect to see a few differences as we move towards the launch of Crysis 2. This will include a bunch of new content like the developer diaries and more behind the scenes videos.

But our actions are not limited to gamesas alone - you can follow us on Facebook www.faceook.com/crysis and on Twitter, www.twitter.com/crysis for more updates and info!

As for C2TV, it's on the way we're trying to get it out as soon as we can :)

@Crytek or Cry-Tom, I just hope your keeping your word about this. You efforts seem to be slipping, but if you need time. Some of us can understand.

Look The Multiplayer for Crysis 2 is going to be shown in two weeks, why show something before there big multiplayer unveiling. Also at gamescom they most likely will announce the beta date there as well.

Also there trying to make everything tip top shape, why do you think Crytek and Crysis 2 is falling? It got delayed because of improvements or so serious source code issue. Thats all.

Yes buddy but there are too many delays! And there is not enough responsibility... Search you mail... Have you ever got a newsletter mail from Crysis 2 (sosnewyork.com)?? The answer is NO.. And I think that the majority of fans who signed in for the newsletter have not received any mail... That is mainly what I mean by saying "responsibility"! I don't know, maybe it is EA fault and not Crytek's...

EA handles marketing. Crytek has something they want to show us, and they need EA's approval. Crytek wants more time on the game, EA needs to agree.

Crytek is not "falling apart". Its called quality control. If anything, Crytek has been "falling apart" since 2007. ;) Crysis 2 was delayed for better marketing and more polishing. Have you not seen how oversaturated Q4 2010 is? Crysis 2 will benefit heavily from moving to Q1 2011, making a more well rounded game and having less competition (if you consider Killzone 3 less competition :D)

Crysis 2 needs more time and I stressed that wayy back in APRIL. Also, a video delay is nothing... You can only say Crytek is falling apart if the multiplayer looks crappy on August 18th. ;)

Ok, I know this will sound stupid, but the release has been moved back to early 2011? When I looked on Gamestop (EB Games), they still have the release date at 12/31/10. Maybe EA really is screwing with everybody after all...who knows.

LOL. I gues not, I just looked at the site literally 10 minutes ago and it said 12/31/10. Now, I just looked at it and it says 3/1/11. Is that weird or what...lol

I never thought about the marketing standpoint of it, rather than just the obvious thought that the game needs to be worked on/ polished up before release Crytek could get much more profit delaying the release till Q1 of 2011, think of all the games that are coming out Q4 of this year (not just on one system but on all PC, XBOX, and PS3) when Crytek delays they can advertise more and get it out when not as many games are being released and then they can draw in more profit from the game, and to address is Crytek falling apart? No way they are falling apart a few things got delayed so what think of all the games that have been delayed before and some have been delayed for more than 3-4 months and still been perfectly fine, Now as I have said a bunch of times before EVERYONE NEEDS TO CHILL OUT AND WAIT A LITTLE

All release dates should be official from this website, SoSNewYork.com and through official channels. Retailers have place holder dates for this purpose and cannot guarantee a definitive date.

Yes but at least tell a date so that we can relax and wait until your release.. And because there is so much delay in its release, I imagine and I hope that you are revealing many stuff about Crysis 2 and I think it would be one the best episodes in Crysis2TV!...

They don't have a date... Just "soon", so that the community won't get disappointed again.

Yup. :) They just take educated guesses until an actual release date is announced.

@ everyone saying the game will benefit - financially - from a later release by avoiding Q4 2010: how long have you been following game development, or gaming in general? HALF of these dangerous Q4 games are ALSO going to be delayed! the more famous/acclaimed, the more likely to get a more luxurious treatment (publisher allowing developer to polish some more).
nowadays there really is no quiet time anymore when you can cash in as the season-monopolist - there are more games (cod, moh, rage, killzone3) for one customer (average fps gamer) to buy than he can or wants to (in my case both) at ANY given moment. that means the only way for a company to actively grow is making their community grow.
-> marketing (like this site we're on) so not only pc/hardcoe/fps gamers have crysis 2 on their lists but also people who play round based rpgs with silly motion controllers the rest of their time.

the only other way for the community of one game, developer or publisher to grow would simply be an increase in the number of gamers overall. and that still doesnt help you beat your competitors.

Avoiding Call of Duty in itself will lead to higher sales. What pushing back does is it allows for a better more polished game, and while Q1 2011 is still pretty crowded, it is still less saturated than Q4 2010. Now even if the push back doesn't benefit so much because of saturation, it will benefit from a longer hype advertising budget and more time to make a better game. Crysis 2 is admittedly not very hyped up yet, so the Q1 push back will definitely be a better selling date because it will get more people interested, especially once they are over the hype of Call of Duty.

The push back is definitely not as effective as it used to be, but it is certainly still worth it to push the date back.

I know this could be the wrong thread to ask this but, is Crytek delaying the game to improve performance in some kind of way? I don't want bottlenecked FPS like in Crysis and Warhead :D

No, they delayed it to decrease the perfomance by 30 %, but shh - a crytek intern leaked it.
