This game doesn't compare to Crysis original.
-Can't lie prone
-graphics engine is well optimized, but textures in the original seem better. I'm very torn on this subject, the new vs the old, and I shouldn't be. I should unequivocally vote the new as superior but I can't.
-what happened to the destructible environment?
-campaign feels short compared to the original. I mean there was the island, the ship fights, the helicopter run, Crysis 2 doesn't have nearly the depth
-less open terrain, the original left you more ways to approach the enemy
-no quick-save. That was fun, you could replay as you chose a scene or an area over & over again trying out different tactics, approaches
-humor: seems there was a bit more humor thrown into the original than here. Might be low on priorities, but it adds to the games fun.
-no full screen map
-no tutorial. I didn't need it but it is an over sight. I know there are some prompts when you first start but those should always remain cursory. A full tutorial is needed for new players or those who want a refresher. Not to mention all games include this.
-no side missions: We aren't in the jungle, we are in a major city and there is no NPC's to interact with except run down the rails following the story? This is 2011 and a major title and this game was $60!
-no screen shots? this should be standard, especially in a game that is expected to be have VIP graphics
-no built-in movie recording, sharing on the internet, sharing screen shots
-other than the cameo from Prophet I don't see any tie-in with the original. I'm hoping there will be an expansion that does this, but I'm likely waiting for nothing. This would have been a great spot for side-missions with more story telling. I'm hoping this is an introduction to an even bigger story. Really hoping for more in the story telling department, it seems so weak.
-granted there are some very cool elements about the story and the nano suit, but overall it seems weak
-the aliens are uninspiring, they seemed to use a lot of cold weapons in the original and these are like another species than the ones found on the island. Some consistency and expanding on that aspect of the aliens would be greatly appreciated.
I'm on a high end PC with an Xbox controller. I'm sadly one of those that are locked out of multiplayer due to the login issue. That and the bug where you lose melee ability after dieing is just killing me. I always play these games on the hardest or next to hardest setting. Currently playing on Veteran. Well, no longer currently playing, the game bugs got to me and I'm going to other things until it gets fixed. I gave this game a 2 on Gamespot, only reason it didn't get a 1 was because the artwork does seem top notch. Very much a let down otherwise.
And those are just the single player issues. Just wait until you get to the multiplayer. There you have:
-An unrealistic experience system. Those with higher ranks get better weapons and upgrades to their suit/weapons. This in turn allows for them to get more kills. By getting more kills they get even better weapons and upgrades to their suit/weapons. Rinse and repeat until you're so horribly outgunned it's not even wroth it anymore.
-Hacker en mass. They've come out of the woodwork.
-Repeatedly having to re-earn your experience because there's no in-between round saving and if you're disconnected from the game for any reason (losing net connection, the server going down, the host losing their connection, etc.) you lose all of your hard earned experience.
-Unranked servers giving you no experience, despite you being able to make in-server progression, meaning that people hosting their own games is a pointless affair.
-Small, cramped environments where reflexes pay off more than strategy. Also, a few maps seem to have almost been designed specifically to make it impossible to snipe.
-No vehicles. None at all.
-Horrible connectivity issues that mean out of a list of around 600 servers you can only join around 5 to 10 of them.
-No filter saving
-The server lists do not update themselves meaning you may waste a great deal of your time trying to join a full game.
-A horribly messed up team balancer. At one point it was my lone self against five people. The game ended when they all left after I decided to hide in a dark corner in cloak mode.
-Shield mode isn't what it used to be... in fact the only mode that is better than it used to be is Cloak Mode.
-Very few places where you can ambush someone. The entire game seems to have been designed purely with Console in mind. It's not at all like the first where you could hide behind a bunch of bushes, jump out, and spray down a passing enemy.
-Very few game modes. Your choices are: Free for all (not my cup of tea seeing as how it's mindless gladiatorial combat), team instant action, Relay (capture the flag, only you can't set-up any kind of defenses and the like), or a stupid mode that I forget the name of.
-The fourth one, which I shall refer to as "stupid mode" basically one team has Nanosuits and pistols, the other team has no Nanosuits and heavy weapons. The person who thought this mode up needs to be fired. As quickly as possible. Once the Nanosuit team kills at least one person with a heavier weapon (assault rifle and more powerful) they become unstoppable. Suddenly you're dealing with someone who can go into Shield Mode and return fire picking you off at their leisure (without any shields yourself, you're basically only able to take at best half the damage they can).
This game doesn't nearly come to first place for me. Not by a very long shot. In fact, I'm considering going back to Gamestop to return it for my money back. I'm playing PC version of this by the way. Not a clue how it plays out on Console, nor do I honestly care.
