CTD's after the forced 1.8 update, trying to figure out whic

Post » Sat Nov 03, 2012 9:22 pm

I never got a single crash before the update but after steam gave me 1.8 I'm getting them every few minutes. I updated Script Extender and all my big mods to their newest versions, except the ones that require Dawnguard since I don't have Dawnguard. My major mods are SkyRe, Climates of Tamriel, SkyUi, immersive HUD.Here's my load order:

- Skyrim.esm
- Update.esm
- More and Better Lights.esm
- Climates of Tamriel.esm
- Winterhold ruins.esm

- Sounds of Skyrim dungeons.esp
- Sounds of Skyrim wilds
- Sounds of Skyrim civilization
- unnoficial Skyrim patch
- alternate start
- better dark brotherhood
- skyrim performance mod
- skyui
- Acquisitive Soul Gems
- Better Fast travel
- Cloaks of Skyrim
- Winter is Cloming - Cloaks
- Unlock spells
- Climates of Tamriel
- Expanded Winterhold Ruins
- improved skill books
- immersive armors
- UFO ultimate follower overhaul
- Bags & Bandoliers
- Immersive HUD
- SkyRe (version 99.16 since I don't have Dawnguard)

I don't think my load order should be a problem since this is the order I had before the update and I never crashed then. Any ideas?

Would you paste your mod load order with the esp and esm's which are active. Just want to make sure that you have the compatibility patches installed as well.

BOSS is the programme which sorts for you automatically and is highly recommended.

I haven't heard much good about the Skyrim Performance Mod.....

Remove Sounds of Skyrim. It causes (at least for me), massive CTDs. It was already buggy to begin with, but it worked fine (unless removed) until the latest patch. Also, Immersive HUD has some problems as well (going by the little I know of how to read the Papyrus script). It was getting a lot of errors (along with SoS) in the Papyrus log. Those two are the only mods I had problems with in 1.8, that I have on your list. I got rid of those two and the crashes went away/went way down.

Keep in mind, for SoS...you have to delete the two script files that come with it (not just remove the esps), or it doesn't solve the problem (even in a new game).

Could be SOS if you're also having problems but for me working fine even after the last patch. Only one way to find out I suppose.

Uninstalling SOS - Civilizations is a bad idea unless you disable all the sounds with the config and stop all its quests in the console prior to removing the .esp.

Don't uninstall SoS. That would be bad.

You might want to be sure you've got the right version of the Winterhold Destruction mod since the filename doesn't match what I have (unless he changed it recently). That mod did need to update for Patch 1.6, but that was some time ago.
