Cumulative Speculation related to TES V #16

The creation of this thread is to keep speculated information of future TES series in one place. As quoted:

August 17th, 2009: Pete clarify many things of what happen in QuakeCon in this blog: http://bethblog.com/index.php/2009/08/17/clarifying-about-next-elder-scrolls-game-mmo-etc/

Also, the first Elder Scrolls Novel, http://www.amazon.com/Elder-Scrolls-Infernal-City/dp/0345508017, and it's release date, November 24th, 2009.
Further, an Amazon plot synopsis that was later removed indicates TES:V will take place 200 years after the events of the Oblivion Crisis. Here is the http://74.125.113.132/search?q=cache:LTwbGwuYMjgJ:www.amazon.com/Elder-Scrolls-Infernal-City/dp/1848566867 of the page via Google archiving.
Mkay, apparently that cache archive has been overwritten. In that link's stead, here are proofs http://s56.radikal.ru/i151/0910/07/1139f395d0ce.png and http://i652.photobucket.com/albums/uu244/MrTissueBox/TheElderScrollsV200yearsafterOblivi.jpg. January 6th, 2010: http://www.blogtalkradio.com/kotaku/2010/01/06/chatting-with-fallout-and-oblivions-todd-howard, at the 9:30-10:30 mark Todd Howard said: "[...] we spend a lot of time adding to the engine, [...] and we've sort of been doing that with the big new game [we've been] making since we finished Fallout 3. You know we finished Fallout 3 over a year ago so that whole time has been spent re-doing a large part of our basic technology[...]". Essentially confirming that their next big game has been Bethesda's main focus only since Fallout 3 went gold on October 8, 2008, a little more than a year ago. Considering the fact that Bethesda's games take 3-4 years to develop, we may not hear about TESV for some time.

UPDATE: I've zipped and uploaded the Google Archive I saved. Download's http://www.mediafire.com/?zt0jtmunzjj through Mediafire (blech, but unless you guys know of a better free file-hosting service...). Unzip and open the html document to see the confirming archive of Amazon's page.

OK. After a discussion with summer we have decided to reopen this topic but under the following conditions.

This is about speculating on the next TES game and when - or if- it is going to be released, it is not a place for discussion of what is going to be in it, what type of graphics there will be or any other subject of that type, they belong in the http://www.gamesas.com/bgsforums/index.php?showtopic=1065099. If those kind of posts get raised they will be deleted and the poster warned for going off topic.
Some of you are treating this as a personal chat box with one liners and little substance. Again, that will not be acceptable.

If you have something of value to add, then great, but there is no requirement to make posts just for the sake of it. The moderators will be keeping a close eye on this thread.

Does anyone know what happened to this Paul Oughton character who said it would potentially be out in 2010? My guess is that he is a year or two off...

Yeah I don't know where he got 2010 from if they only started working on it in late 2008.

"Potentially" does not mean "guaranteed". Also, we're only 13 days into 2010 so "potentially" still stands and even if it's wrong, it was just a rather vague estimation

Man, I can't wait to get some solid information. Theres been so many games that I've discovered, waited for, bought, completed, and then sold since Oblivion was released, but it's all just biding time for me, it's just a distraction from the "when is the next TES coming?".

Seriously, I hope this waiting is for a good reason. I know it'll be good, it's TES, but I'm really hoping that Bethesda are going to step their game into the next decade for TESV.

Its not a completely unfounded comment if you think about it. I mean Supposedly TES V has been in pre-production for 2 years, since Oblivion, then Fallout 3 comes out in 2008, therefore they work with the full team on it for two more years. They did the same thing with Fallout when they were working on Oblivion right? So I'm pretty sure that late 2010 wouldn't be out of the question and thus he just used it as an estimate. Besides, its not like Todd Howard ran into Game Informer and screamed at the top of his lungs that it was going to be on store shelves by June 2nd 2010.

Well, we might get news or even a release of Elder Scrolls Online in 2010 from Zenimax Online. There's a strong likelyhood they are working on something like that, and they might have been at it for quite some time.

O ye of little faith...

Paul Oughton said http://www.gamesindustry.biz/articles/bethesda-pencils-in-new-elder-scrolls-title-for-2010

If he didn't mean it for sure, he would have said unpotentially or not potentially or mispotentially. Besides, the media has already jumped on this, and if he doesn't follow through then... well... thats bad karma. Its false hope, getting our hopes up. And his mother would be ashamed of him. Plus, note the title, "pencils in." If Bethesda "penciled in" TESV for this year then there is nothing to do to unpencil it, unless they have an eraser... but I don't think they'll find one.

I'm not being sarcastic. I'm clinging on to the hope that TESV will be fully completed and perfect this year, and I don't know about you, but I'm not letting go fo that hope. The worlds gonna end in two years anyway. I need at least those two to play a TES game satisfactorily.

Well, we might get news or even a release of Elder Scrolls Online in 2010 from Zenimax Online. There's a strong likelyhood they are working on something like that, and they might have been at it for quite some time.

NO. Bad. :slap:

That needs more time. We want a TES MMO (if they have to make one) to be perfect, so they should wait at least the next century before releasing or announcing it.

Developers delay titles ALL the time, Bethesda has absolutely no obligation to release TESV in 2010.

Not unil the second book peaks in sales will a game be released. I hope that this isn't TESV, but the Eye of Argonia (from a third party company) and that TESV has enough development time to be completly awesome.

Fulfilling such an obligation would make the game rushed. Please, everyone, be patient. Also, understand that Fallout 3 probably delayed TES V by 2-4 years. If we want a good Elder Scolls game, it can't come out in 2010.

I understand that,you are 100% right.

Maybe I will start playing Fallout 3 again, this time with DLCs I didn't played any of them !!!

But still even 3 years is a lot,I could accept 2,but for 2 years I will have 20 years and maybe interest in ES falls down that is what I am afraid about.

Even if your interest in TES series goes down, won't it instantly come back the minute you hear TES V is announced?

Man, I hope not.
One of the things I love about the Elder Scrolls franchise is the absence of other people. It's my wholly immersive break from the "lols" and "noobs" of MMO communities.

Additionally, the thing with turning a franchise into an MMO-franchise is that you can never go back. Anything you intend to release following the MMO will be expected to be an expansion/patch to the MMO; releasing a solo game following an MMO would be impossible without seriously peeving the MMO subscribers.

An Elder Scrolls MMO would mark the end of the beautifully immersive solo games we've come to know and love.

Did anyone see the link tothe interview with 1 of the developers of "Projocet Offset"? They have been working on that game for for a year maybe 2, and the game is still in develop for more 2-3 years.

Now TESV has not even been announced yet, so we may have to wait 4-5 years. :(

The thing that annoys me most is that its been 4 years without even an announcement, that's a very long time to not even have announced the next game. I'm not asking that Beth give us a bunch of screenshots and concept art, I just think a verbal announcement to the public that TESV is in the works would be nice.

You'd be out $10,000, theres no way Beth would wait 8 years to release TESV, they'd lose a gigantic portion of their fanbase (including myself), just look what happened to Duke Nukem.

Yeah, a realistic estimate is 2011-2012. I can't imagine them waiting until 2013 or later.
