Curious about the Ship

Post » Tue Dec 04, 2012 12:32 am

I'm mostly curious about the Ship. I'm working on a ship mod and that ship at the start does raise my curiosity. I did hear that moving platforms might be implemented, so I hope this is it. I might have to rework my whole mod...

It seemed like a scripted ship arrival. Does anybody now more about it? Is that a scripted moving platform with free movement, or is the player setvehicled there for the arrival animation???

Hope some of the Xbox users can answer this tomorrow...

If you can commandeer the ship and take it to where you like, it would be neat, but I suspect it would be a lot of coding work for the devs. Thus, my guess is that it's just a scripted event.

If, however, the devs did let you take your own boat back and forth, it could be very neat. You could go to the various port cities, sail around towards high rock, go towards morrowind and vardenfell (maybe even blacklight - wouldn't that be neat), go up river to windhelm, perhaps go up river past solitude and make your way towards (or close to) morthal. Perhaps there is more than one place to dock or land on Solstheim - even a beach will do if you're headed to the northern parts of the island. And maybe you can sail up solstheim's rivers.

However, once you've done all that, there needs to be something more to keep you entertained on your boat ride - maybe pirate fights, sea monsters and such.

But these are all musings. I suspect it'll just be a simple scripted event.

I would assume it's scripted. Of course I wouldn't be surprised if that was just for show and you end up just being teleported to the arrival pier.

Yes, it's what I assume too... It will probably be scripted. It looks quite static.

chickenkungfu, that's what I hope to achieve with my ship mod, although it's still way off. Also, I'm not sure if I can achieve world space migration yet...

Anyway, it would be great if at least we get moving platforms or similar... We'll see in a couple of days.

If you want to get a feel for it done well (and I suspect it couldn't be done in Skyrim), look at Assassin's Creed 3. Just steering the ship around feels amazing.
