Current gen vs. Next gen

Post » Mon May 06, 2013 7:45 pm

Bethesda already confirmed The Evil Within will be coming for Next gen and current gen consoles. PC obviously too!

(Playstation 4 already revealed, Xbox Reveal on May 21!)

So what do you think will be the difference between the current gen version and the next gen version of this game?

Besides graphics then can be changed so much for next gen, with the given amount of RAM and other technology the game could look rapidly different on PC/Next gen consoles.

Do you think current gen versions will look far worse than next gen or will it just be slightly different?

Let me hear your thoughts on this!

I am sure nintendo community is not happy with bethesda, because in the near past bethesda said, wii U must have a desirable sales number to be considered making a game for it. PS4 is not out yet, they will have less than 1m sales (wii U is nearly 4 now) and they will make a game for it. These kind of movements are unforgiving by gamers, gamers always punish video game companies by not buying them. Also nintendo customers are also pc gamers. PS4 will be very expensive for EU market so it will take ALONG time to be established, because the starting price is always double that the US price (if it costs 500 dollars, in EU costs 600 euro (like 950 dollars!!) (if we dont have tougher economy and politics, all these things make the markets very unstable), I dont even consider xbox720 as a console, as a satellite box (maybe)... Online drms is not appealing to me, I want to have freedom to buy my product, use it when I want and with or without internet. Online drm doesnt help... Thats why... These mathods forcing customers to pay bills be able to play (phone and internet) and its not cheap..

anyway, a question that may not be answered, but may be considered as a plus. Is it going to have mod tools? But I also think that the game is not developed by Bethesda itself, so it may not. Cant wait to hear about fallout 4....

I'm sure the first cross-generational games and early next gen games won't look like something totally new in graphics. Remember the first PS3 and Xbox360 games? They looked pretty bad compared to now.

I think the new gen will look much better but it's going take time, and they'll have to once again be 30fps games, unfortunately. Not that it matters, console gamers mostly don't care for framerate.

I'm sure current gen of The Evil Within will have mostly full dynamic lighting, if not all, since it's using a whole new lighting system, not the baking from Rage.

If they've decided 30hz that allows much more detail and yes, full dynamic lighting, and I think they're doing this since they know that 60hz is only really necessary in FPS action games

For a 3rd person survival horror game like this, I think it's much better to choose 30hz and go for all the eye candy to create something very scary looking.

Edit: Of course this might mean that the next gen won't look THAT much better, just run much more fluently maybe at 60hz

In my opinion there is a huge difference between 30fps on PC and 30 fps on a console.

I play every day Battlefield 3 on xbox and I never had an fps issue where I couldn't play properly

That's not how framerate works. 30hz is 30hz no matter what. Many factors go into why playing on consoles feels different to PC, and yet on PC it's always smoother actually, if you have a good setup.

Spoiler

Well the point was, they should make The Evil Within 30fps for current gen consoles

So that the game isn't held back in things like texture res and realtime everything. The PC and next gen console gamers after all, will be able to play on higher resolution and 60fps.

Alone in the Dark: The New Nightmare is another horror game that was released for two console generations (PS1 & PS2) and the difference between the two is quite massive.

That said, I don't expect that much of a difference here. Sure, there will be a higher resolution and higher textures as well, which are nice extras. But I doubt it's gonna be a massive difference that makes people scream "OMG, this version is so much better!".

Instead it gonna be like playing Skyrim or Sleeping Dogs on the 360/PS3 and then play the PC version with the HD texture DLC, I'm sure. It's still just the same game.

But this is just me guessing of course
