Cyrodiil instances?

Post » Tue Jun 18, 2013 3:18 am

Not sure if this had been posted yet, but just watched this interview with PvP lead Brian Wheeler, and something he mentioned got me a bit worried.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_embedded&v=Api8AzGDok0#t=0s

If you skip to http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_embedded&v=Api8AzGDok0#t=6m35s he says that there will be several Cyrodiils running at the same time; meaning (if I understand right) that there will be several instances up at the same time. So, it won't be just one big zone to pvp in, but instead spread out into different intances. Cyrodiil 1, Cyrodiil 2, Cyrodiil 3 etc?

Am I misunderstanding here, or is it just too early to tell anyway?

Yep, that's absolutely correct, and it needs to happen. Can you imagine 2 million people in one zone? The zone would crash instantly. They needed to do it this way. We know that there is cap around 2000 people per Campaign of Cyrodiil which is big enough.

They're called Campaigns and we've known about them for awhile now. Each Campaign was said to hold roughly 2k players so about 650+ per faction.

It wouldn't be feasible at all for everyone who plays ESO to be in the same Cryodiil. Thinking modestly here if the game has 200k subs and even half of a quarter of those PvP the lag and latency would be far too much to handle 50k-100k people in one zone.

Yeah thats my understanding as well but I want to get your take on something. If 2k people will be allowed per campaign like they have suggested, how will they keep the amount of players in one area at 200 like they have said so as not to lag/crash?

Just think of a campaign of 2000 people as a server in other games. In your campaign you will always be with the same allies and enemies. so you will have friends with allies and allied guilds and you will start to remember your enemies and enemy guilds

Cyrodiil being a vary large open world zone for starters, then having several objectives and keeps that need to be taken and held to spread people out and lastly I think the tech may allow for a few more than 200 to be in an area, its just that you'll only be able to psychically see about 200.
