Cyrodil, warfare, legionizing the masses

Just wondering:

Does anyone feel that there will be any advantages to organizing coordinated strikes in PvP with well thought out party groupings and having reserves and such and crews to man and defend siege weapons?

or . . . . is it going to be a Zergfest

I really hope that Generals arise in each of the factions and that people can gain distinction by being a good leader rather than kiling the most players and completing the most missions in Cyrodil.

Think of it, each faction could designate a certain ammount of generals in charge of a certain amount of units or something and then based on how well their task force does they could get bonus alliance points. I think if something like this was impletmented it would be fun and becoming emperor from a general would hold more meaning.

On the other hand, if each faction had splinter factions with competing claims to the throne that also might be fun so maybe each faction could have some opposing rebel factions that could also seize power and make a legitimate claim to the throne of emperor.

How does everyone else envision PvP taking shape? How can a faction coordinate their players in the best and most efficient manner and also make it fun?

I like the generals part because I also worry the game will be to much of a zergfest but I doubt we would have factions within the faction all vying for power. although that would be cool

I wouldn't be too sure about that...

Imagine 3 guilds all looking for a fresh keep, for a place to sell their wares and call home. And on the frontier there is a fort that is ripe for the pickins.

I bet you would have one guild sit back and say "no we wait to attack....."

Then the other two guilds rush in trying to claim the keep, and weaken the enemy as the 3rd swoops in at full strength and takes the keep.

Perhaps those two don't "jump" to the defense of that keep, in the hopes that the enemy takes it back at weak force, and they have their chance to reclaim it.

The problem with "leaders" is that it ends up a popularity contest ultimately.

Actually I don't really have a problem with that myself because motiving and organizing people is really a valuable skill in of itself.

But under your system, a solo player will have zero chance of becoming Emperor. More than a few feathers will be ruffled at that I would imagine.

I only hope that as a General I could potentially issue field orders at like a war planning table. Where there would be a big *ATTACK HERE* symbol show up on my allies screens, or at very least my guild.

Or even more co-ordinated strikes. Like battle teams. So there would for example be a yellow team, green team, and blue team.

I could issue out like:

Yellow team engage enemy at front gates. Blue team, wait in the bushes over the hill behind Yellow team. Green team, rendevoux on horseback to their rear gate.

Lure enemy to fight outside the gate as Yellow team weakens, then do a fake retreat. If the enemy pursues then Blue team rushes en masse on the enemy force. When blue team attacks, Green team begins raiding their farms, mines, and lumber mills. If they keep up the assault on Yellow and Blue, we just knock out their resources, then call in siege weaponry. If they stop to attack Green Team, then Blue and Yellow converge on their main gate and try to initiate a quick capture on their fortress.

... I don't have any hopes up, but it would be incredible to issue out in depth field commands to plan for attacks.

We were doing exactly that kind of thing In Keep sieges in AoC.....that is and should be player driven, it's one of the signs of a well disciplined large encounter pvp outfit to have layered chat channels and a clear leadership strategy.

I think not all players will follow those awsome strategy. But i do think there would be 'raids' with good leader, and a planned out approach on some keeps

I don't think the zerg will be as powerful as it is in most other large scale PvP games, but honestly that ball is in ZOS' court right now. We'll see how they choose to implement methods for players to smash them or not.

As far as advantages to small and organized groups..Absolutely. :)
